Job Description
What to Expect

As an equipment operator, you will be expected to contribute on job sites in Northern California and Southern California, The Southwest US, and Pacific Northwest US. This is a travel-based position for which nearly all work will occur on the road. Job durations will range from 1-4 weeks and will be undertaken by a cross functional team of 2-3 members handling all trades required to get the work done, together. The crew will remain consistent throughout the job and also from job to job allowing for team cohesion and improvement as a group. This team will be expected to push the limits of construction technology and techniques, and as such will have direct feedback contact with design engineers, project managers, and business developers related to the program. A well-qualified applicant will have experience in many aspects of civil and underground utility installation. The role will be asked to work alongside and participate in various trades as well as train new employees and educate other members of the organization about the complexities of construction implementation.


Excavators Operators are responsible for manipulating heavy equipment in a safe manner. Usual duties for this role include performing maintenance checks, implementing safety measures, handling inventories, and removing debris. Essential skills include attention to safety, communication, stamina, accuracy, teamwork, and time management.


In-between concrete projects the candidate will be trained to support Powerpack and Solar panel installation.


What You’ll Do
  • Minimum 7+ years as an equipment operator.
  • Carpentry and concrete finishing experience is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge in using hand and power tools
  • Strong working knowledge of job site safety with ability to thoroughly evaluate job hazards and complete pre-work task planning with an emphasis on identifying hazards
  • The ability to read and understand drawings and specifications as well as to contribute to creating field use drawings
  • Obsessive attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with all levels of management; must have high degree of initiative, and the ability to work alone and effectively with other people
  • The ability to think outside the box and find innovative solutions

  • Operating Heavy Equipment: One of the primary tasks of excavator operators is operating heavy equipment, ensuring that the operating safety policies and procedures are adhered to. Always working with a spotter
  • Maintaining Machinery: A key part of this job is to ensure that company equipment and any materials are well maintained, kept clean, and stored appropriately at the end of each day. This includes checking the filters and ensuring that equipment is greased to keep it working effectively.
  • Keeping Work Areas Clean: Excavator operators keep the work area as tidy as possible, and ensure the equipment is clean by collecting any scrap or excess materials and disposing of refuse.
  • Conforming to Safety Regulations: Excavator operators ensure that all health and safety regulations are maintained on the work site, observing, and raising awareness to their colleagues of any potential problems.
  • Filling Out Paperwork: Excavator operators ensure that any necessary work reports and documentation is prepared and filled out at the end of each day and handed over to the supervisor for their approval. These may include providing recommendations for how to improve or maintain environmental performance.

  • Knowledge of USA markings: understand the rules and requirements of 811(dig alert). Also aware of underground utilities, utilities boxes and existing trenches.


What You’ll Bring
  • Ability to complete job scopes outside of normal core competencies as required
  • Ability to produce parts lists and work plans based off drawings or field walks
  • Ability to produce as-built drawing for work performed
  • Experience operating excavator, bobcat, scissor lifts, boom lifts and forklifts
  • Personal hand tools, tool belts and other small personal tools (power tools are company provided)
  • OSHA-10 preferred
