Job Description

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We are seeking an Epidemiologist - Healthcare Associated Infections.


This position will assist the Bureau of Center for Acute Disease Epidemiology by providing data analysis, collection, and surveillance reports for the Healthcare Associated Infections Program. The position will identify data elements, data collection tools, appropriate data analysis methods, and visualizations for the program and program partners. This position will lead the Healthcare Associated Infections Program by designing and maintaining surveillance reports of data requested received by the program. The position will ensure appropriate analysis methods are identified and the reports are written to specific needs of the consumer. Additional duties include designing and implementing public health epidemiology studies for the Healthcare Associated Infections Program. Inquiries and questions received by the program will need the position to determine the appropriate study type, describe the needed data fields, collections tools, provide collection support, and clean the data for appropriate data analysis.


This position will also provide general epidemiological support for CADE. Specific activities include infectious disease consultations with the Division of Public health, healthcare teams, and general public. There is a need for this position to participate in educational activities and provide 24/7 on-call coverage for infectious diseases to impacted communities.

6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in epidemiology, which involves:


  • The surveillance for respiratory diseases, vector-born diseases, enteric diseases, antimicrobial-resistant agents, or other infectious or non-infectious diseases
  • The development of protocols and procedures for data collection and analysis, ongoing analysis of data using a variety of databases and statistical analysis programs
  • The development and dissemination of written reports, graphs, tables, etc
AND


535 Public Health


6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both related to improving, maintaining, and protecting the general condition of health within society, either on a personal, institutional, organizational, or community basis. Experience may be gained from direct provision of health care or from other ancillary programs and support mechanisms such as government public health departments.


Minimum Qualification Requirements


Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:


  • Three years of experience in applied epidemiology in an infectious, noninfectious, or chronic diseases; environmental poisonings or conditions; injury prevention; or a substance misuse related epidemiology program.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a non-public health graduate degree with at least two courses related to the principles and practice of epidemiology; and
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a graduate degree in public health with at least two courses related to the principles and practice of epidemiology.
