Job Summary
The Epidemiologist Principal provides direction and leadership in the promotion of antimicrobial stewardship across agencies using a “One Health” approach, coordinating the work of the MN One Health Antibiotic Stewardship Strategic Plan. The position collaborates with partners to enhance antimicrobial stewardship in agriculture and assess the impact of antibiotics on the environment, and provides expertise in measuring, and assessing the burden of antimicrobial resistant infections of public health importance.
- Innovative solutions to policy issues and promoting antibiotic stewardship need to be created within the context of public health practices and the political circumstances of local communities.
- Develop policies or modifying existing policies when problematic, taking into account scientific issues as well as social, political, and legal realities
- Provide expert advice related to antibiotic resistant infections and appropriate methods of prevention and control, taking into account community conditions, involvement, and attitudes is needed.
- Solve problems related to the analysis and interpretation of clinical data which may be incomplete or, seemingly incomplete.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A veterinary degree and a familiarity with clinical issues
- Post graduate training in infectious diseases epidemiology or other related field.
- Expertise in applying epidemiology to solve complex problems in disease surveillance, epidemiologic research, and disease prevention and control activities.
- The ability to communicate technical information related to infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance and antibiotic stewardship.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of medicine as related to public health.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of state and local public health problems and programs
- The ability to conduct original research related to the impact of antibiotic resistance.
- Maintains knowledge and skills in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial stewardship, and infectious diseases.
- Experience in working in the area of antibiotic resistance or antimicrobial stewardship
- Knowledge of MDH function, policies and procedures
- Post graduate training in epidemiology such as the CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service or equivalent
- This includes designing and conducting studies, analyzing data and drafting and editing manuscripts acceptable for presentation at national scientific meetings and for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Knowledge and skills in data management and computing
