The primary purpose of this position is to provide mechanical engineering technical support to the design/development of production shop tooling and equipment and proposed real estate (facility) modifications. Responsibilities


  • Independently carries out engineering projects to improve aircraft component repair/manufacturing operations and personnel quality of life/productivity.
  • Knowledge or safety and occupational health requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and/or technical orders.
  • Knowledge of standard accepted mechanical and industrial engineering practices to include reading of engineering and architectural plans/specifications.
  • Practices Air Force Quality philosophy to ensure continuous process improvement and enhanced mission performance.
  • Ability to independently plan, coordinate, end organize work to Identify problems and develop innovative solutions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the: methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Providing mechanical engineering technical services in support of aircraft component manufacturing and repair, facilities planning, facilities' utilizations, and other special plans/programs/projects significant to mission accomplishments. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
