Endoscopy Technician - Full Time, 1St Shift

Overview

Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. Additionally, under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and the Endoscopy physician, the GI technician performs various duties to assist in the care of Endoscopy patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.

These duties include, but are not limited to, assisting Endoscopy physicians with procedures, supply ordering, case scheduling, scope management, cleaning and reprocessing of Endoscopes and Bronchoscopes, preparing equipment and supplies for Endoscopy procedures, ambulation assistance, measuring vital signs and blood glucose, and transporting.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

• Assist in specimen collection, labeling, ordering and transport of patients as needed.
• Takes call on a rotating basis with team members. Responds to "call back" in a timely manner.
• Knowledgeable of operation and use of various types of equipment used during endoscopy procedures. Completes required documentation legibly.
• Knowledgeable of all aspects of endoscopy procedures performed at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Responsible for preparing equipment and supplies.
• Demonstrates basic knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Good problem solving skills. Able to evaluate daily schedule and prioritize needs. Relays relevant information to appropriate team members.
• Knowledgeable of manufacturers instructions for cleaning, transporting, decontaminating, high-level disinfection and storage of endoscopes.
• Understands importance of work place safety as it relates to medical device processing and sterilization.
• Follows instructions, adaptable to change, accountable.
• Understands principles of infectious disease transmission and prevention.

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or GED. BLS required.

Experience: No previous experience required
