Job Overview


This is an advanced level position The EEG Technologist III is credentialed in EEG (R. EEG T) and a second credential (CNIM, CLTM R. EP T.) which qualifies them to provide a descriptive analysis of the waveforms and patterns relevant to the modality of their credentials but is not responsible for interpretation or clinical correlation of the data. Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Coordinator and Neurophysiology Manager, they can perform all core functions of the job and are competent in electrocorticography (ECoG), eloquent cortex cortical mapping, and subdural electrode implants. Strong well-developed communication skills are essential for this position. The EEG Technologist III has developed the highest skills and expertise to provide the most complex monitoring needed for brain and epilepsy surgery cases and during all intraoperative long-term monitoring procedures.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION – High school diploma or GED.
  • LICENSE – ABRET Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T) + 1 (CLTM/ REPT/CNIM) by the American Board of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).
  • EXPERIENCE – 3 years’ experience and 1 year in a pediatric setting.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) – BLS for Healthcare Providers/CPR.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Assists with evoked potential procedures.
  • Performs all aspects of the subdural grid implant preoperatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively including but not limited to: electrode set-up, montage creation/verification, troubleshooting, hook-up and discontinuation, and stimulation for cortical mapping.
  • Identifies and performs advanced technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination.
  • Proficient with SPECT patient care and recognition of waveforms and responsible for the administration of isotope at seizure onset.
  • Calibrates and maintains equipment and lab in good and clean condition; verbalizes malfunction to the Clinical Coordinator or Manager as needed. Advanced skills in maintenance of equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, performing routine EEG procedures, in the lab and/or at the bedside. As well as the EMU (addt. Cert - CLTM).
  • Completes all paperwork/forms for procedure being conducted; follows up with archiving of records.
  • Observe, notate and analyze ongoing clinical and technical changes, adjusting the testing procedures as appropriate for individual recording session.
  • Preforms special projects during non-patient care down time.
  • Advanced in special procedure EEGs such as neonatal recordings, ECS recordings and PET scan recordings.
  • Follows the International 10-20 system for proper electrode application. Within <45 min. Advanced skills demonstrated with all patient types.
  • Advanced in performance and analysis of the data. ambulatory EEGs. Review EEG Tech II Data for conclusion.
  • Maintain current knowledge to assure a safe working environment and demonstrate practical application of all policies & procedures relative to safety, infection control, standard precautions and risk management.
  • Can perform all duties and responsibilities for typical and special consideration EEG/ECoG monitoring for all types of epilepsy and brain surgeries independently.
  • Assists level I and II Techs with advanced procedures.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining procedures, protocols and quality assurance programs.
  • Proficient in performing VNS procedures.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $64,328.01 to $96,492.02
Hourly Salary Range: $30.93 to $46.39
