Job Summary:
The Emergency Room Nurse is responsible for providing excellent patient care in high-pressure emergency room settings. They must be quick-thinking, capable of making critical decisions, and possess exceptional clinical skills. The role requires the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and maintain composure in demanding scenarios. The Emergency Room Nurse collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to deliver optimal patient outcomes while effectively communicating with patients, families, and colleagues.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Conduct initial assessments of patients in the emergency room and triage according to acuity level.
2. Administer medications, manage IV lines, and perform various medical procedures in accordance with established protocols.
3. Respond swiftly to emergency situations, providing life-saving measures and coordinating care efficiently.
4. Evaluate and monitor patients' conditions, recognizing changes and implementing appropriate interventions.
5. Document patient information, including assessments, treatments, and interventions, in a detailed and accurate manner.
6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans, ensuring effective interprofessional communication.
7. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are readily available.
8. Educate patients and their families regarding the patient's condition, treatment plans, and home care instructions.
9. Follow infection control procedures and maintain a safe environment for both patients and healthcare providers.
10. Participate in ongoing education and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid and active registered nurse (RN) license in the United States.
2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree strongly preferred.
3. At least two years of prior emergency room nursing experience.
4. ACLS and PALS certifications required (BLS and TNCC certifications may also be preferred).
5. Exceptional critical thinking and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to remain calm in stressful situations.
6. Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring clear and concise patient documentation.
7. Excellent interpersonal skills, promoting effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
8. Proficient computer skills for electronic charting and other documentation requirements.
9. Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
10. Flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
