Job Description
Full-Time and Permanent; Non-Exempt; 8 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade MM

General Responsibilities
This position is responsible for performing a variety of highly technical, Master Level electronics tasks associated with the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of highly complex electronic communications computer and automated systems and equipment; performs related work as required. Assignment is to one of the following general categories of electronics__security and intercom systems, telephone and data transmission systems, audio visual equipment and systems, personal computer hardware and peripheral equipment, or wireless radio systems. May serve as a crew leader.

Education and Experience
Requires a high school diploma including or supplemented by technical training in electronics (associates degree preferred) and considerably responsible experience in highly complex and technical electronics maintenance and repair, some of which will have been at the master's level, or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skill, and ability. Certificate of Asbestos Training, as appropriate. Training provided by NPS upon hiring. Possession of an appropriate, valid automotive vehicle operator's license.

Essential Job Functions
  • Performs a variety of highly skilled masters level electronics duties in the area assigned, including work on complex and highly technical electronic communication systems and automated systems and equipment in accordance with Federal Communications Commission and National Fire and National Electrical codes
  • Decides nature and scope of repairs or recommends disposal; repairs and maintains highly complex electronic systems and equipment including, but not limited to, audio-visual equipment such as personal computer hardware and peripherals, including local area networks, camcorders, curve generators, VCRs, video disc players and editing equipment, high volume copiers, complex security systems, such as alarm, fire, and intercom systems
  • Operates and maintains hand and power tools, including vector scopes, logic and high voltage probes, color bar generators, frequency counters and analyzers, diagnostic software; network scanners; volt, amp and ohm meters; digital and analog multi-meters; hand held computers to perform system programming, diagnostics of microprocessor based systems; soldering irons; and oscilloscopes
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Keeps records and makes reports of work accomplished and materials used
  • Ensures proper maintenance of tools and other electronic testing equipment; recommends purchase of equipment and materials for use in installing and maintaining assigned electronics area; ensures safety of the work area
  • If assignments are in the field, drive a vehicle to and from work locations and keep the vehicle supplied with tools and materials; requisitions parts and materials from vendors and supply houses; performs operator maintenance on vehicle and keeps it in orderly condition
  • Troubleshoots, tests, modifies, maintains or repairs highly complex electronic systems and equipment, especially when unusual or difficult technical problems are encountered
