WHO WE ARE
For nearly 70 years, Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) has been powered by people who’ve built a reputation for delivering high-profile, complex projects. Real, tangible things that alter the landscape and improve lives. But even more than that, we’ve built a reputation for integrity. We’re problem solvers and innovation seekers. We’re team players and safety fanatics. And we always—always—do the right thing. Even when no one is looking. Because what we do here is important, but how we do it is everything.

THE ENGINEERING TEAM
With an in-house team of electrical engineers, designers, VDC coordinators and CAD operators, our resources rival those of standalone engineering firms. We are a true provider of turnkey electrical solutions—from design to delivery. As a part of this department, you can expect to work closely with our project management and field installation teams to streamline the construction process.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an Electrical PV Designer/Engineer Level III with functional knowledge in designing small- and large-scale solar PV/BESS power systems ranging from 1 to 500+ MW interconnected at low- to medium-voltage levels. This position independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. You will receive instructions on specific assignments, complex features, and possible solutions. Assistance is furnished on unusual problems. Work is reviewed for correctness and application of the QAQC Process and professional judgment.

The Electrical PV Designer will perform design and drafting tasks assigned by Electrical, Lead, or Supervising Engineers. This role will interact/collaborate with Project Managers, External Design Teams, and Information Management.

Scope: Perform progressively independent design of complete construction drawings including but not limited to medium and low voltage AC, DC, grounding, and DAS wiring diagrams, electrical site plans, and equipment layouts. Understand, prepare, and execute supporting calculations of the PV field DC and AC collection electrical infra-structure design including but not limited to equipment, conductor, conduit, and OCPD sizing, and voltage drop/power loss. Assemble design drawings and documents and provide or coordinate delivery. Attend meetings with internal and external customers and provide engineering support through design and construction phases including but not limited to reviewing equipment submittals, responding to RFIs, and addressing AHJ comments.

ABOUT YOU
You have approximately two to three years of experience working for an electrical design firm or design build electrical contractor with a solar electrical systems background. You have exceptional problem-solving, communication, time management, and people skills. Your eye for detail is unmatched, which is necessary to organize files and sort tasks according to urgency. Additionally, you have a natural ability to effectively communicate and present technical information verbally and in writing via Microsoft Suite applications – Excel and Word. You are adaptable, remaining flexible and open to change and growth. Your technical skills include the following:

  • Microsoft Office Applications (advanced proficiency)

  • Cymcap (desired)
  • PVsyst (desired)

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
As an Electrical PV Designer at Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI), you will develop knowledge of the Engineering department’s design and CAD/BIM workflows. Your knowledge in fundamental power and lighting systems, as well as an understanding State and National Codes governing our work, will grow and expand. In this role, you can expect to develop and maintain professional and technical development goals in order to acquire PE certification. While this position is generally performed in an office environment, you may have the opportunity attend site visits as needed.
