Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Electrical Superintendent perform in-process inspections on government shipbuilding projects. Document and report deficient work that does not comply with contract specifications, ESG QMS, drawings, and shipbuilding standards. In this position, much of your time will be spent on the deck plates accomplishing electrical inspections and validations with production personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.

  • Assist in getting Corrective Action Requests (CARs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) addressed and closed out.
  • Witness and document in-process inspections for electrical equipment installation and testing. This will include but not be limited to Banding, Terminations, Wire Runs, Insulation Resistance, Ring Outs, Operational Tests, Voltage Checks, Torquing, Material Verifications, Packing, Penetration, etc.
  • Assist in obtaining technical support for the electrical department if needed.
  • Comply with Company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties. Perform other duties as assigned. Work with minimal supervision.
  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Support Dock Trials (DT), Builders Trials (BT), and Acceptance Trials (AT).
  • Ensure equipment used to verify installation and testing is calibrated.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 3+ years of work experience performing electrical installation or testing.

Required

  • Strong writing and computer aptitude/skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Read and interprets drawings, government specifications, work specifications, Military specifications, ABS Naval Vessel Rules (NVR), and Steel Vessel Rules (SVR).
  • Must have experience with electrical installation and testing.

Desired

  • Experience/Knowledge of IEEE, Government contracts, and specifications. Experience as an electrician or engineer in the maritime industry.
  • Experience as an electrician in any field will be considered.
  • Previous experience in Quality Control (QC) and/or QA.
  • 3-plus years of electrical experience in the maritime industry in new construction or repair.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics, ability to recognize problems through troubleshooting, and ability to resolve these issues/problems. Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, including metrics. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstanding extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.

The employee may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards found in a heavy industrial shipyard environment.
