Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Electrical team , for Science, Technology and Healthcare MEP projects in the San Diego office.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Participates in field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of lighting, photometrics, and lighting controls.
  • Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight by Engineers.
  • Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight from senior staff.
  • Maintain the discipline Engineering Calcs and equipment selections for the project.
  • Prepare one-line diagrams with input from Engineers
  • Edit specifications to reflect project requirements.
  • Produce working Revit MEP drawings/models.
  • Assist Engineer with calculations using SKM Powertools for available fault current and implement proper AIC ratings of equipment.
  • Edit electrical specifications to reflect project requirements with input from Engineers.
  • Manage and deliver drawings and revisions for various milestones.
  • Performs field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
  • Prepare Revit floor plans showing electrical device layouts, circuitry, fixtures, equipment, etc. with limited input from Engineers.
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases.
  • Understand and properly apply existing EXP details relevant to projects.
  • Understand and apply concepts of voltage drop, conductor sizing, etc.
  • Review and comprehend drawings of other disciplines.
  • Coordinates with other disciplines (MEPFP, Architectural, Structural, Process, etc.)
  • Meet with vendors to get exposure to specification requirements for different applications.
  • Prepare calculations for electrical loads and panel schedules.
  • Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in the work plan.
  • Code research to comply with building codes, NFPA , Energy Codes etc.
  • Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals with limited input from Engineer.
  • Edit and develop scope of work narratives (Basis of Design, etc.)
  • Solve installation problems with electrical systems, travel to site to resolve issues.
  • Participate in voluntary training opportunities such as vendor lunch and learns.
  • Layout fire alarm devices on floor plans.
  • Apply risk management procedures to minimize exp’s and client’s exposure to problems.
  • Initiate coordination of space and utility requirements with other disciplines.
  • Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review construction details.
  • Work with senior engineers, PM and client to meet scheduled milestones on multiple projects.
  • Visualize systems in a 3D environment and utilizing clash detection software (IE: Interference Watcher).
  • Positively contribute to EXP and local office culture.
  • Understand proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents – and deliver appropriate documentation.
  • Perform overcurrent coordination studies using SKM Powertools for proper coordination of overcurrent devices.

What your experience looks like

  • FE Certification (Fundamentals In Engineering)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in related design of Healthcare, Correctional and Critical, Life Sciences, Research and Development, Pharmaceutical and other Facilities systems and building projects.
  • Ability to travel locally.
  • Revit MEP proficient
  • Engineering Degree (BS Architectural Engineering, or BS Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree)

The pay range for this role is $74,000-$97,000 . Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
