Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking an EHS Professional to join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) site in Linthicum, Maryland. The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing certain occupational health and environmental programs and supporting safety programs at ATL in addition to implementing and managing EHS programs at several office buildings in the Linthicum area.
Over fifty years ago, Northrop Grumman opened ATL to create semiconductors for critical military programs. The facility, now a Department of Defense trusted foundry, has delivered more than eight million components that support missions from undersea to outer space and every domain in between. The foundry maintains a wide range of processes in gallium nitride, gallium arsenide, silicon, and silicon carbide in the production of military spec microelectronic chips, some of which are radiation hardened. Nowhere else in the world will you find a single foundry with this broad mix of device fabrication capabilities. A variety of ground-based, aircraft and space systems programs have sourced components from the laboratory.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact for sites.
- Works to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability of EHS programs.
- Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, site personnel, and Fire and Hazmat Team
- Oversees the following occupational health programs: asbestos/lead abatement, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, hazard communication, and non-ionizing radiation (lasers and radiofrequency).
- Creates and updates Job Hazards Analyses.
- Oversees the following environmental programs: stormwater and wastewater.
- Conducts qualitative and quantitative hazard assessments to include exposure monitoring for physical and chemical agents.
- Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects.
- Completes industrial and office ergonomic evaluations to reduce risk factors that cause musculoskeletal disorders.
- Conducts internal compliance inspections and identifies actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
- Develops, implements, and maintains EHS programs for several office buildings to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
- Maintains occupational health programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
Additional roles and responsibilities may include:
- Applies for new permits and renewals.
- Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures.
- Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases, and regulatory agencies.
- Conducts incident investigations.
- Coordinates EHS training for employees and conducts instructor-led EHS training.
The position can be filled at a Level 2 or 3.
Basic Qualifications for Level 2:
- Excellent risk communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization.
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the practice of industrial hygiene, environmental/occupational health, or EHS; (or a Master's degree and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the practice of industrial hygiene, environmental/occupational health, or EHS).
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
- Ability to perform job duties with general direction and supervision and to provide technical solutions to complex problems based on sound industrial hygiene principles.
Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
- Ability to perform job duties with general direction and supervision and to provide technical solutions to complex problems based on sound industrial hygiene principles.
- Excellent risk communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization.
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the practice of industrial hygiene, environmental/occupational health, or EHS; or a Master's degree with three (3) years of experience in the practice of industrial hygiene, environmental/occupational health, or EHS.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications for Both Levels:
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Tableau.
- Experience with supporting EHS programs for semiconductor operations.
- Basic understanding of chemistry and its application to personal protective equipment (PPE) selection, chemical processes and compatibilities.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
- Certifications in environmental or safety related programs, for example CHMM or CSP.
- Experience in completing industrial hygiene assessments/sampling and assessing the health impact of physical and chemical agents.
- MS degree in an industrial hygiene, environmental health, occupational safety, or a related field, or currently enrolled in an MS degree program.
- Experience with overseeing third party consultants/contractors.
- Experience in interacting with a union labor workforce.
- Experience as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
- Experience as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
- BS degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health, occupational safety, or related field
