Editor I - Fiction

Guideposts is seeking an Editor I who will provide support for the Book/Fiction team. The position is ideal for someone who has knowledge of the Christian publishing market and is enthusiastic with a “can-do” attitude.

Responsibilities include:

• Draft memoranda regarding book covers and locate sample online images for artists
• Cross-check PDF versions between proofreaders and typesetter to ensure accuracy
• Request contracts and payments for authors
• Prepare and maintain schedules using Smartsheet; ensure deadlines are met
• Collaborate with the team on various brainstorming projects
• Miscellaneous projects and other duties as may be assigned
• Research new series concepts and write copy for market testing, including series overviews, sample plot lines, and character sketches
• Line edit 2 to 4 books per month and provide commentary about content
• Research, identify, and read books in the wider marketplace for potential licensing opportunities
• Copyediting and proofreading various items (not entire manuscripts)
• Draft back cover copy
• Post book covers in private author Facebook groups and monitor conversations
• Process freelancer invoices for payment

Requirements:

• Knowledge of the Christian publishing market and Direct Mail market a plus.
• Ability to think opportunistically and work collaboratively.
• Solid experience with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe PDF comment tools is essential.
• Excellent writing skills and strong communication skills.
• Ability to champion projects through multiple stages of publishing process in a fast-paced environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications or Creative Writing with 1-3 years’ experience in book publishing, or comparable combination.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and schedules, adhere to tight deadlines.

Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade in which this position falls. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors, including skills and experience.
