Starship Technologies is looking for a strategic, action-oriented, and data-driven Director for Field Operations in the US . You will be responsible for high-priority strategic projects driving capacity, quality, and productivity for our various field team members, customers, and merchants.


This role reports to the SVP of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Field and Service Operations and collaborates with a broad range of key stakeholders including Finance and Business Analytics, Marketing, Sales, Product, Technology, Support, and Operations teams.


In the role of Director of Field Ops you will:


  • Identify patterns and problem areas, and implement effective solutions to constantly be driving increased efficiency, productivity, and quality.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design and implement business initiatives and workflow changes, including communications and appropriate launch plans for stakeholders involved.
  • Define and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of Starships operations to provide a quality service and support the business’ growth goals.
  • Responsible for establishing and deploying company field operations policies, processes, and procedure with an emphasis on budget management, service quality, and onsite performance metrics.
  • Be a culture carrier. Create a fun, inclusive, and safe workplace for employees at each of our sites.
  • Develop, communicate, and execute complex cross-functional initiatives aimed at delivering best-in-industry service for our customer, merchants, and US field operations teams.
  • Bringing order to a dynamic environment with short timelines while working under tight deadlines, and not being afraid of going out into the field on the ground level.
  • Liaise with other departments, including engineering, product, mapping, support, and logistics to ensure we offer a smooth, high-quality service to our customers, and effectively transfer information to other teams where their work can drive improved system effectiveness.
  • Implement a culture of continuous improvement including standards definitions, audits, and feedback gathering to drive seasonal business cycles.
  • You and your team will manage the entire launch phase including field relationships with campus staff, food service merchants and providers, facilities, hiring, training, logistics, and robot infrastructure.
  • Analyze and enhance our operational procedures, workflows, and systems.
  • Scaling the teams to meet our growing business needs, including forecasting, hiring, and training.
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition and People teams to recruit, retain, and develop Operations team members.
  • Lead a team and create an inspiring and empowered work environment for team members to thrive by defining clear career paths and identifying individual growth opportunities.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of people and process management practices.
  • The flexibility and adaptability to work with different aspects of a business in a fast-paced, growing startup environment.
  • Some travel--up to 50% is expected and dependent on launch schedules and how quickly you can build out and scale your teams.
  • People management experience and proven ability to deliver outstanding results through others.
  • Demonstrated project and budget management skills.
  • 7+ years of experience in an operational role, building and developing diverse teams, optimizing processes, and delivering business goals ideally at an early stage & high growth company.
  • Previous P&L responsibility preferred.
  • Proven ability to execute and track record of getting projects across the finish line successfully.
  • Previous experience in a tech industry or military background is preferred.
  • Experience motivating teams both through in-person and remote management.
  • Multi-team management experience.
  • Must reside on the East Coast of the US.
  • 5-10 years supervisory experience in operations or related fields.


Education and Soft Skills:


  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to think at a systems level; you embrace pressure and love the constant urgency needed to solve unique problems.
  • Goal focus with a strong bias toward action.
  • Exceptional communicator, both with peers and cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Data-driven mindset, strong business judgment, and proven ability to perform analysis, draw key insights, and comfortable with setting targets and managing operational metrics.
  • Comfort with project management methodologies, including scoping, planning, executing, and closing projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field.
  • Skill in working with stakeholders to anticipate their needs, find the best way to answer a question or solve a problem, and proactively communicate project status.
  • Understanding of the big picture of things and the ability to think at systems and company wide scale.
  • A strong understanding of real-time marketplaces (supply and demand economics).
  • Effective and inspiring leader that people naturally follow and rally behind.
