Job Description
The International Institute of St. Louis (IISTL) is a refugee resettlement agency. IISTL serves people from all over the world who have fled persecution in their home countries to start new lives and become self-sufficient, contributing members of their new communities. While IISTL has traditionally focused on helping refugees, it is increasingly serving a more diverse immigrant population. IISTL is looking for a full-time Director of Education Job Summary: The Director of Education develops and directs IISTL's efforts to help refugees, and other immigrants take advantage of the best educational opportunities available, develop conversational English, and prepare for post-secondary college, career success and citizenship. The Director of Education collaborates with local institutions such as the St. Louis Public Schools, Nahed Chapman New American Academy, St. Louis Community College, and a variety of other public and private organizations to strengthen services and advocacy for recently-arrived immigrants. The Director of Education manages a diverse team of IISTL staff, teachers, interns and volunteers who oversee after-school tutoring for teen-agers, teach English, provide mentorship, enrichment, and personal growth opportunities. Successful candidates will have experience in curriculum development, staff supervision, instruction and coordination of effective programs for foreign-born English Language Learners (ELL); experience in obtaining and managing grant funding preferred. Plus, experience managing a social service program, experience working with refugees and other immigrant populations or related personal experience, and knowledge of the US refugee resettlement program generally. Duties/Responsibilities Ensure development of effective curricula for a variety of programs including ESOL, Citizenship, pre-vocational and Teen program Grant management including writing grant proposals, ensure data collection and analysis for grant reporting and quality improvement Continuous quality improvement, program and financial administration, program development, and staff development. Strengthen operational capabilities through expanded use of technology, improved operational processes, and enhanced professional development. Develop and implement program proposals and budgets; help vet and explain budget vs. actual variances, and perform programmatic financial forecasting to help ensure that all unobligated funds are expended prior to the grant's expiration date. Make budget modifications when necessary to achieve the department's outcomes while remaining within budget. Provide supervision for direct reports Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development of departmental staff. Prepare staff performance evaluations relative to the communicated performance objectives and provide appropriate feedback to each staff person in a constructive manner Organize workflows, set staff work goals, develop productivity standards, and appropriately delegate responsibilities to staff to achieve the overall organizational mission and program objectives. Member of the IISTL Leadership team Maintain and develop relationships with community education leaders and partners. Represent the organization publicly Contribute to an environment that fosters the organization's mission, teamwork, effective communication, responsiveness, service to the clients and service to the community. Assist in operationalizing the strategic plan. Perform other appropriate duties as assigned. Ability to meet deadlines Ability to work independently and as part of a team as necessary. Ability to work productively in a multicultural environment and demonstrate respect for differences. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Advanced experience with Microsoft and Microsoft 365. Education and Experience MA in TESOL or equivalent 8+ years in ESOL teaching 3+ years program and staff management experience Developing and monitoring spending according to budgets.
