Job Description

The Nautical Group is a retained search firm partnering with clients to identify and recruit outstanding individuals capable of serving in key disciplines. We are currently assisting J. Harlen Company in the search for their Director of Sales and Marketing. Established in 2001 and based in Raleigh, J. Harlen provides high-quality specialty clothing, boots and equipment for utility line workers. The company serves customers worldwide, and thousands of linemen regularly visit JHarlen.com to find the latest clothing and equipment from the top manufacturers in the industry.


In addition to providing quality products, J. Harlen Company is committed to delivering the utmost in customer service, and the company works under the belief that customer services is treating others the way you wish to be treated.


Reporting to the founder, the Director of Sales and Marketing will manage and oversee the sales operations of J. Harlen Company, including developing and implementing a sales strategy that incorporates ecommerce and retail platforms and maximizes revenue and profitability.


Job Functions:

  • Engage with clients, assisting the sales team with maintaining relationships and negotiating and closing deals
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to drive team performance; monitor their performance regularly
  • Lead and manage marketing efforts and work with the marketing manager to effectively leverage social media and email campaigns, SEO and SEM and all digital advertising to increase new customers, site visits and conversions; ensure Sales and Marketing are aligned
  • Serve as a liaison between Sales/Marketing and other departments
  • Prepare periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed expansion
  • Analyze market trends, customer behavior, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities as well as areas for improvement
  • Develop accurate sales forecasts and budgets
  • Create and execute strategic sales plans to maximize the effectiveness of the sales team and capitalize on significant existing client relationships
  • Lead a team of inside and outside sales representatives to achieve sales targets, implement sales initiatives and foster strong relationships internally and with customers; provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to maximize their potential and ensure the achievement of individual and team sales targets
  • Foster a customer-centric culture by influencing the team to proactively identify client inefficiencies to increase client satisfaction and operational efficiency


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience
  • Infectious confidence and a balanced sense of optimism
  • Excellent strategic planning skills, with proven ability to establish and meet goals
  • Excellent written and oral communications abilities
  • A passion for leading others and creating an environment of accountability, coaching and motivation
  • Effective problem-solving, quantitative analysis, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to recruit, develop, measure, and nurture sales talent both from a “hunter” and a “farmer” perspective
  • Minimum of 5 years of sales leadership experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Fair, trustworthy and ethical beyond reproach
