About Our Job
The City and County of Denver is seeking highly motivated and community-oriented individuals to join our organization as a Director of Labor Outreach. In this role, you will be responsible for fostering positive relationships and building connections within the local labor union community.
The primary role of the Director of Labor Outreach will be to serve as the day-to-day outreach lead for labor unions within the broader strategy of the Mayor's Office.
As a Director of Labor Outreach, you will set the strategic direction and vision for worker engagement across the city, in alignment with the vision and goals of the Mayor of Denver.

A successful candidate will be someone who can generate innovative and nuanced solutions to complex challenges, provide strategic vision, anticipate challenges, and assess the effectiveness of our work.
Please note, all City and County of Denver Appointee positions will be in-person roles. We believe we can listen better, learn more, and act faster when we are able to build strong relationships in the same physical space. With this in mind, we do our work together in person. We value in-person interactions. Our office is not remote.
The salary range for this position is $107,319 - $182,442.

Additionally, as the Director of Labor Outreach, you will:
  • Public Advocacy: Represent the interests of labor unions in meetings, public hearings, and other forums. Advocate for labor-related issues and concerns, ensuring that workers' voices are heard and considered in local decision-making processes.
  • Labor Union Engagement: Develop and implement innovative strategies to engage labor unions in various initiatives and projects. Organize and facilitate regular meetings, workshops, and events to promote participation and gather input on labor-related concerns.
  • Communication and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, including attendance, feedback, and outcomes. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate the progress and impact of labor-related initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaboration and Partnership: Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership between the Mayor's Office and labor unions. Advocate for joint initiatives that contribute to the welfare of workers and the improvement of labor conditions. Act as the liaison between the Mayor’s office and internal and external labor unions.
  • Resource Coordination: Research and identify available resources, programs, and services that can benefit labor union members. Assist unions in accessing relevant resources by providing information, referrals, and support in navigating available opportunities.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with labor union representatives, leaders, and members. Act as a liaison between the Mayor's Office and labor unions, actively listening to their concerns, ideas, and feedback, and providing guidance and support in addressing their needs.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Organizational and Technological Proficiency: Demonstrated organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Proficiency in using technology and software applications for communication and data management.
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, showcasing diplomacy, empathy, and collaboration.
  • Cultural Competency and Equity Awareness: Given Denver's diverse community, the candidate should possess cultural competency and awareness of equity issues. They should be able to develop communication strategies that resonate with diverse populations, promote inclusivity, and address equity considerations in messaging and engagement efforts.
  • Problem-Solving: A proactive and resourceful approach to problem-solving in a dynamic work environment will be crucial to addressing challenges effectively.
  • Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for effectively engaging with labor union representatives, members, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Political Awareness: Familiarity with local government structures, policies, and political dynamics will help navigate the political landscape effectively.
  • Labor Relations Experience: Previous experience in labor relations, outreach, or a related role is highly desirable. Demonstrated knowledge of labor union structures, priorities, and concerns will be an advantage.
