About OneGoal
A postsecondary education unlocks opportunities and economic mobility not only for students, but entire communities. Yet for millions of underserved students, it remains out of reach: only 22% of students in low-income communities earn a postsecondary degree compared to 67% of students from high-income communities. This is not for lack of ambition or talent, but for lack of opportunity and support OneGoal’s model, (https://www.onegoalgraduation.org/impact/impact-results/) honed over 15 years, delivers a culturally relevant experience that works: 82% of OneGoal high school graduates enroll in a postsecondary institution and 73% of those persist one year after high school graduation. We are looking for individuals to join us in our pursuit of equity.
The Person
As the Director of Innovation, you will help our region to evolve and transform our program to achieve impact at scale, ultimately reaching more youth. You will project manage complex initiatives that will position our region to sell and deliver new program offerings. You will lead and manage change across our region as we create the conditions within our organization to sell multiple products across a broader geographic reach. You support a user-centered design process by gathering internal and external research, synthesizing rich data, and formulating strategies and recommendations that feed ideas and new solutions. You are also responsible for codifying promising learnings, publishing knowledge, establishing systems, structures, and standard operating procedures in order to create consistent results and accelerate our organization’s ability to close the degree divide.
You Will Do This By Executing On
Project Management: Support the RVPI and ED to onboard a new pilot that will help our region transition from a single-district, single-product region to a region selling and delivering multiple program solutions to a broader geographic reach.
  • Build systems, structures, and communications materials needed to execute our growth strategy.
  • Support the execution of a go-to-market strategy that drives our transition to a statewide region with new program offerings.
  • Together with the RVPI, plan and facilitate work sessions and planning retreats to clarify roles, responsibilities, division of labor, decision-making rights, next actions, and owners.
  • Implement a project management plan to move work forward and ensure we are on track to meeting our project milestones.
  • Collaborate cross-organizationally with internal teams to build mechanisms for effectively transferring and institutionalizing innovations.
  • Help clarify what work needs to get done by when and who is best positioned to complete the work. Invest and support key stakeholders and project members from cross-functional teams to complete their deliverables.
  • Conduct research on the local and statewide educational landscape at the secondary and postsecondary level to inform our growth strategy.
  • Align with national and regional teams on the highest impact strategic actions in order to move work forward with clarity and purpose.
Change Management: Support and implement a change management plan that stewards regional transformation while supporting strong staff culture.
  • Support the implementation of advice processes to gather input from all staff, especially staff who will be most impacted by specific decisions and do the follow up necessary to ensure that staff understand how their input was used to inform decisions.
  • Meet with staff members in group and one-on-one sessions to gather input and feedback on how change is going.
  • Prepare summary reports and visualizations that communicate to a variety of stakeholders how our change management plan is going and surface patterns and trends in our quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Work with the MD of Talent and Operations and her team to identify opportunities to plan and facilitate sessions that support staff in learning about our organizational direction and build excitement about the new growth and learning opportunities that are ahead.
  • Work in collaboration with our regional leadership team to ensure we are identifying and building the new capabilities required for us to successfully sell and deliver multiple product offerings.
  • Research and support the development of multiple staffing options so that our region can effectively sell and deliver multiple products across an expanded geographic reach.
  • Identify early adopters who can help build critical mass across the region and org.
  • Present multiple options for decisions that objectively lay out the benefits and tradeoffs of each path forward to ensure decision-makers are equipped to make informed choices about our region’s future.
  • Support the development and implementation of a communication and staff engagement strategy to ensure that staff feel informed and invested in our growth and expansion plans.
Though the Director of Innovation is likely to see him/her/themselves in the following examples, these are not requirements. These examples are designed to help you determine if this opportunity aligns with your own passion and purpose.
You believe deeply in our Fellows and their ability to achieve their postsecondary dreams.
  • You believe that our Fellows face real systemic barriers to achieving their greatest postsecondary aspirations, and that empowering their families, their teachers, and themselves to own their unique path will help them to overcome those barriers.
You are a compelling and effective communicator.
  • You discern the appropriate mode of communication to build investment, depending on the situation and audience
  • You have the ability to adapt messages to different audiences in order to inspire stakeholders.
You are a relationship builder.
  • You strive to build strong relationships and identify the interests and motivations of a diverse set of stakeholders in service to our collective impact.
  • You cultivate relationships with the understanding that our students are best served when we collaborate to meet all of their needs.
  • You are both humble and optimistic about the role OneGoal can play within the education system and postsecondary landscape, operating with a commitment to serving more students in their pursuit of postsecondary pathways.
You are okay “in the gray.”
  • Contingency-planning and problem-solving excite you, and working to streamline and improve systems gives you energy.
  • You know that in innovative work, the rules are never set in stone, and you are excited to be a part of clarifying ambiguity through a test-iterate approach when working to develop solutions.
  • You make connections, determine fits, and build plans that are responsive to interlocking and evolving challenges and opportunities.
You are a strategic and thoughtful project manager who effectively moves work forward.
  • You can manage both the details and the big picture view of a project and clarify the roles and responsibilities that each teammate plays.
  • You are driven both by data and experience, recognizing that decision-making and strategy require evidence as well as a drive to dream big. You thoughtfully evaluate your current approach and identify ways to elevate our program’s effectiveness through constant self-reflection.
  • You are organized and thorough in managing team execution even outside the lines of formal authority.
  • You know when and how to engage other key stakeholders that have the insight and positional authority to help you gather input and overcome obstacles.
Qualifications
  • Lived experience of the Fellows we serve (Preferred)
  • Experience or interest in sales, growth, and partnership strategy
  • Proficient in data collection, processing, and analysis to inform your work and tell a story
