The Opportunity
Martello Re is seeking a DIRECTOR OF FP&A for our FINANCE unit. In this role / reporting to the CFO, the successful candidate will leverage technical, analytical and organizational skills to become an integral part of the Finance team with responsibility for FP&A including budgeting, scenario forecasting and ad hoc reporting. Support sound business decisions by providing advanced analytics, strong communications, and development of relationships across multiple business units through the enterprise.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide monthly and quarterly actual to budget variance analysis reports and partner with function and division leaders to manage budgets effectively
- Collaborate with others throughout the Company, including financial accounting and reporting, actuarial and investments, to understand and communicate performance through both verbal communication and presentations.
- Partner with leadership on internal reporting deliverables including quarterly Board/AC decks, investor packages, etc.
- Lead the annual budget process, strategic planning and periodic forecasting
- Ad hoc projects and initiatives may be assigned (i.e. system conversions, new business projections, etc.)
- Oversee the FP&A function
- Provide ad hoc financial and analytical support
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with building and ongoing development of a high performing team.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with emphasis in the insurance industry plus a current CFA designation or equivalent
- Excellent communicator who can distill complex information into simple terms and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage and coach a small team to deliver effective, time sensitive reporting to a high professional standard.
- Excellent technical accounting knowledge. Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Proven ability to work independently and multitask.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- At least 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience in financial services.
- Highly collaborative and able to work across the company to successfully execute key business objectives.
- A track record of working on a high-performing team.
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of business concepts.

- ** Experience working at a startup – either a standalone new company or a new business unit within a larger organization
- Ability to build relationships at all levels within the organization and stakeholders.
- Values and embraces new technology and uses it to achieve a competitive edge.
- ** Experience at a life and annuity re/insurer
Compensation and Location
- Competitive salary, bonus, and benefits package commensurate with experience. Strong preference for position to be located in Bermuda or Charlotte.
