Job Description

First Tee – Greater Richmond (FTGR) is a youth development organization that uses the game of golf and its inherent values to shape the lives of young people from all walks of life. We are strengthening the character of the community by providing programs that build resilience in our youth, teach critical life skills, and provide caring adult supervision in a safe environment.The Director of Education and Outreach will primarily oversee the development and execution of First Tee - Greater Richmond’s Community Program and School Program. The focus for this position is to introduce the First Tee curriculum to historically underserved communities that will inspire youth’s interest and lead to continued and consistent participation. Inspired by a genuine passion for empowering and helping young people succeed in life, this person will work diligently to promote and expand the efforts of the organization.An ideal candidate for this role is a mission minded, enthusiastic, and highly visible member in the community, representing First Tee – Greater Richmond throughout the service area.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing relationships with school district partners that execute the First Tee School Program in their PE curriculum (Richmond City, Chesterfield County, Henrico County, Hanover County, and Petersburg City) which includes: Coordinating registration, schedules, facility reservations, transportation, and advertisement of programs if applicable.
  • Develop and maintain new and existing partnerships with Title I schools in addition to other youth serving organizations in alignment with First Tee - Greater Richmond’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Assist the Vice President, Impact with developing and adhering to the youth programming budget and forecasting future needs.
  • Ensure high quality, consistent, and safe Community Programs and School Programs through coach and volunteer recruitment and training in conjunction with the Vice President, Impact and Player Development Professionals.
  • Communicate transition opportunities, records of youth served, training opportunities, and lesson plans for School Program and Community Program initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President, Communications and Engagement to help with community awareness via social media platforms, newsletters to applicable stakeholders, and Chapter website.
  • Support our business development efforts by providing program metrics and descriptions of ongoing or new programming initiatives to help achieve annual fundraising goals.


Qualifications

  • Exceptional time management and project management skills
  • Deep commitment to the mission of First Tee - Greater Richmond which includes: passion for youth development, desires to serve all kids with a special emphasis on underserved and underrepresented groups (with respect to ethnicity, gender, and socio-economic status), and demonstrates an understanding of the game of golf and the inherent values and opportunities the sport provides all young people
  • Ability to travel to meet with community partners, schools, trainings, and Chapter and Network events as needed.
  • Completes all background check and child safety training requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in nonprofit management, youth development, education, parks and recreation, sports management or other related field
  • 1-3 years of team leadership experience
  • 3-5 years of experience leading groups of children in educational settings
  • High energy, charismatic, personable, motivational in working with youth, coaches, and volunteers
  • Teaching certification or completed coursework in childhood development and concepts of teaching and learning can substitute degree requirements
  • Proficient with Google Office Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Salesforce
