Scope of Position

The Director of Communications and Events is responsible for overseeing all aspects of United Way’s communications, public relations, and event management for a variety of constituencies with a strong emphasis on fostering an inclusive and diverse environment. The Director will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to create impactful messaging, execute engaging events, and drive the organization's commitment to inclusivity and diversity.


Key Responsibilities

1.Communication and Public Relations:

oCreate and execute effective communication plans to convey the organization's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equitable outcomes.

oOversee the organization's public relations efforts, including media relations, development of press releases, and crisis communication.

2.Event Planning and Management:

oOversee the execution of inclusive events that advance United Way’s impact.

oMonitor event budgets, logistics, and timelines to ensure successful execution.

3.Stakeholder Engagement:

oBuild and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including community organizations, sponsors, and partners.

oAct as a spokesperson for the organization's mission and vision for public forums.

4.Monitoring and Reporting:

oDevelop metrics and data collection methods to monitor the organization's progress in achieving organizational goals through branding, messaging, and communications.

oProvide reports on key performance indicators, trends, and recommendations.

oStay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging issues related to marketing and communications.

Preferred Qualifications

1.Education: Academic credentials in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.

2.Experience: Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success in communication, public relations, or event management, with a focus on promoting inclusion and diversity.

3.Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

4.Commitment to Mission: Genuine passion for the nonprofit sector and alignment with the organization's mission, values, and commitment to equity.

5.Knowledge: Communications and marketing best practices and current trends, including understanding of nonprofits and empowered story telling.

6.Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

7.Strategic Thinking: Strong rationale and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate strategies into actionable plans.

8.Results Orientated: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create impactful messaging for diverse audiences.

9.Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to supervise and work effectively within a team environment to achieve shared goals.

10.Technology Proficiency: Proficient in communication tools, social media platforms, and content management systems (HTML, CSS, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite). Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is expected.
