Position: District Director of Communications & Marketing
Department/Campus: District Office Reports to: Area Superintendent
FLSA Status: Exempt Role/ Salary Band: Band 4

JOB GOAL
The District Director of Communications & Marketing is responsible for overseeing the implementation of a cohesive strategy across all facets of the district's inward-facing and outward-facing communications channels, including media relations, social media strategy, internal communications, branding and signage, and digital media. This position requires strategic insight, tactical expertise, and leadership capabilities to help our organization better leverage these communication channels against our goals.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
o Minimum of 4 years professional experience in public relations, media relations, journalism, corporate communications, marketing, or similar field (preferred)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Write press releases and make direct story pitches to news agencies and outlets which positively promote the district;
o Identify potential stories within your district, including those which may appeal to news outlets, or HPS internal
stakeholders;
o Host media visits to campuses and campus events;
o Work in conjunction with the Communications Department, teachers, campuses, other district departments or program representative to develop collateral materials, flyers, posters, banners, brochures, certificates, direct mailers, ads and other marketing materials to publicize programs, events, current district initiatives and related content.
o Research, write, edit, proofread, and produce internal and external communication materials, including press releases, feature stories, e-newsletter, brochures, reports, video scripts, web site content, letters, social media content, and special publications for distribution that align with the district plans, initiatives.
o Create and distribute district-level newsletters;
o Manage district-level social media accounts;
o Oversee management of campus-level social media accounts;
o With appropriate training and guidance, manage updates for district website;
o With appropriate training and guidance, oversee management of updates for campus-level websites;
o Share best-practices and provide training as needed with district- and campus-level staff regarding HPS Communications
efforts.
o Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
o Professional-level understanding of social media and social media trends
o Exceptional written and verbal skills
o Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to clearly articulate ideas, frame challenges, highlight opportunities, and offer solutions
o Excels in working both within a team and independently.
o A strong problem-solving skill set supported by technical knowledge and creativity, ensuring that solutions are engaging, strategically sound, and brand compliant.
o Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
o Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to use cellular phone to take pictures or record video for use in internal and external communications channels.
o Ability to report and analyze data.
o Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Light Work: may require the occasional light lifting.
o Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
o Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
o Moderate travel is required.
