Overview
The Accounting Director will support a variety of accounting functions with a primary focus on overseeing the Accounts Payable team, overseeing the Cash team and the preparation of financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and SEC rules. This position will also be responsible for ad hoc projects including process improvement as well as researching, documenting and implementing new US GAAP standards. This position will provide technical accounting guidance to the accounting team and assist the team in preparing for the Company’s external audit.

• Lead and coordinate balance sheet account close, including timely reviews and sign offs by the Accounting team
• Incorporate internal controls into processes as warranted to prevent inaccuracies in financial statements, protect company assets and build efficiencies
• Lead and support other accounting related projects as assigned
• Develop accounting personnel, coach on proper preparation of reconciliations and audit deliverables
• Liaise with other functions at First Watch to understand accounting implications related to any upcoming operational changes
• Research and lead accounting for complex topics (examples: accounting for business combinations, minority interest accounting, lease accounting, etc.)
• Document accounting policies and procedures which includes fully and completely understanding assigned processes and transaction flow
• Coordinate and review audit deliverables (PBCs) for financial audit
• Lead continuous process improvement by constantly evaluating processes and updating documentation
• Assist with complex account reconciliations, including creating templates for complex areas and reviewing existing reconciliations for accuracy, audit readiness and opportunities for improvement
• Assist with Monthly Close, including hard quarter-end close and year-end

Qualifications

• Able to document and analyze accounting processes, including internal controls
• CPA
• Minimum 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including accounting leadership role
• Able to create written policies and procedures
• SEC accounting experience
• Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Accounting/Finance
• Experience with internal/external auditors
• Strong understanding of GAAP and ability to research and apply complex GAAP
• Strong computer skills (Accounting software, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat Pro, etc.)
• Public accounting (audit) experience
