Job Description
Job Summary:

Works with medical center stakeholders to assess, plan, organize, direct, evaluate and coordinate nursing professional development and inpatient clinical informatics within a Service Area or a single medical center. Provides program design, management, consultative, and strategic planning services in areas of clinical education, training and simulation, professional development, and continuous learning. Oversees a team of clinical nurse educators and/or clinical nurse specialists.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Integrates KPs Professional Nursing Practice Models to inform and align educational programs that foster professional development, accountability, resiliency and life-long learning.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary and process improvement teams to identify potential improvements in the current use of systems.
  • In partnership with physicians and TPMG leadership, directs development and implementation of quality standards across the continuum of care to patient focused delivery of services and cost-effective utilization of necessary services.
  • Promotes professional nursing development through the application of the principles of adult learning in the development of educational programs, such as core competencies, preceptorship development, orientation programs, clinical educational programs, specialty training programs, simulation, technology integration and KPHC (electronic medical record).
  • Ensures compliance with administrative, legal and regulatory requirements of the Health Plan contract and governmental and accrediting agencies.
  • Serves as a nursing resource, to individuals and teams throughout the facility. Identifies and resolves workflow issues through analyzing workflows, rounding on units, and conducting ad hoc training.
  • Interacts with community agencies and academic practice partners/programs for the support/provision of clinical education to continually develop and maintain a competent health care work force.
  • Provides facility vision, leadership and technical advice related to clinical documentation (KPHC), process and workflow design, data management and related informatics processes and projects.
  • Builds trust with the nursing team through visibility, coaching and mentoring.
  • Engages with cross-regional communities of practice and peer group activities to ensure continuity, alignment and partnership on region-wide initiatives and programs.
  • Maintains a state of continuous regulatory readiness.
  • Develops and promotes strong inter-professional relationships between physicians, nurses and all members of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Directs and manages budget and resource allocations for assigned areas.
  • Oversees the development of department standards as identified by regulatory agencies.
  • Provides change leadership to clinical teams, coaching and consultative services to clinical leaders, and acts as a clinical expert to analyze/diagnose/solve clinical performance problems.

  • Provides clinical and professional oversight for areas of accountability.
  • Provides strategic and tactical leadership in change management processes involving the delivery of exceptional patient care and member services, including escalating requests, planning implementation for technology upgrades, facilitating and communicating changes to front-line clinicians and leadership, and translating impact and training needs into Patient Care Services Education and training priorities.
  • Serves as liaison with academic practice partners, coordinating student experiences, externships, nurse residency, specialty training and transition to practice programs
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership teams in placement and oversight of student, intern/extern and residents.

  • Collaborates with Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) and other medical center management in identifying and implementing innovative education models and evidence-based best practices with an emphasis on quality of care, technology integration, service improvements, operational efficiencies and affordability.
  • Serves as a liaison between the facility and appropriate regional resources to communicate needs, identify barriers, and facilitate system modifications to meet needs.
  • Manages and resolves human resource, labor relations, employee and department safety and risk management issues.
  • Provides mentorship to nurses in the development of leadership skills, change management processes, quality program initiatives, professional development and streamlined implementation of evidence-based practices.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum seven (7) years of nursing experience required.
  • Minimum four (4) years of leadership experience required.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Masters Degree in Nursing OR Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Masters Degree in related field High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 12 months of hire OR Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 12 months of hire OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 12 months of hire
  • Registered Nurse License (California) required at hire
  • Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of change leadership and translation of evidence into practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of performance improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrate strong business and clinical operations acumen
  • Demonstrate knowledge of nursing professional development standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical informatics.
  • National specialty certification required within one (1) year of hire or one (1) year for incumbents.
  • Demonstrates strong change management skills and experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of Magnet/shared governance experience preferred
  • Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
  • Doctoral degree preferred.
