This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading a multi-faceted design research team embedded in the Starbucks Digital Retail Experience organization. This team will always partner with the applicable Business Units within Digital Retail Experience. Three main remits arms to: 1) Future cast against emerging trends to see where Starbucks could and should have enduring impact. 2) Apply human-centered design into our digital product development strategy and bring business ideas or problems into customer and store partner accretive solutions. 3) Partner with our Starbucks Technology team to ‘build to learn’ and bring early-stage customer or store partner experiences into live environment testing.
To help us continue our mission, we are looking for a director to join the team. In this role you will lead the team, advocate for the customer and/or store partner, balance quantitative data with qualitative design direction, and effectively navigate ambiguous problem spaces.
As a director, Digital Retail Experience Innovation Accelerator, you will…
  • Contribute to Starbucks future growth, by leading a team of human-centered design experts to understand customers, generate new offerings and rapidly experiment new ideas.
  • Create a sustainable, best in class process for Starbucks digital innovation
  • Work alongside a variety of Starbucks design experts and leaders to drive customer or store partner accretive change
We’d Love To Hear From People With
  • Experience navigating and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to use digital analytics, customer feedback, user experience research, and other qualitative and quantitative metrics to inform product planning and prioritization. (3 years)
  • Experience in related methodologies such as Systems Thinking, Continuous Improvement, and Agile. (5 years)
  • A proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, while managing tactical deliverables and meeting deadlines
  • A Bachelor's degree in business, design, innovation management or related field. A Master’s degree in business, product design, or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent storytelling, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in design thinking, service design, design research, and/or interaction design disciplines, ideally in a consulting/agency environment. (5-10 years)
  • Strong facilitation skills, comfortable in a consulting environment with senior-level participants.
  • Ability to lead a team and develop a team of design experts
