Position Description:
ATD is the largest independent replacement tire distributor in North America. With sales of nearly $5B+ in 2020, we are continuing to focus on accelerating our business in the context of changing market, customer and consumer trends. The Strategy team plays a critical role in driving ATD’s growth and strategic transformation by developing high-growth strategic options and plans and acting as a strategic partner to the Supply Chain organization to bring growth initiatives to life. Our team is principally tasked with developing Supply Chain growth strategies and formulating long-term strategic plans that address specific objectives, issues, and opportunities that support continued improvement of ATD’s overall performance.

As the Director of Strategy and Transformation, you will be at the forefront of ATD’s transformation for supply chain and expected to play a leadership role in its on-going success. This role requires a strategic problem solver who is an effective influencer with a high degree of business acumen. You will support our efforts to anticipate the future of the industry and develop strategic options to position the company for success in a rapidly changing world, as well as translate that foresight into multi-year strategies and annual strategic and operating plans. You will effectively manage several projects and bridge strategy to realization through planning, internal consulting and thought partnership across the business to produce sustainable results that meet customer needs and achieve our strategic objectives. The ideal person has demonstrated excellence in growth, strategy, operations, and technology.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Guide supply chain leaders through the strategic planning process and lead offsites for cross-functional teams to develop strategic projects that drive towards the corporate strategy objectives
  • Typically run multiple projects / workstreams simultaneously, while serving as the principal strategic partner to key leaders of the business
  • Participate in preparation of executive-level materials for presentations to Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors and communicate on a range of topics with confidence and presence
  • Gains the stakeholder buy-in necessary for the successful execution of the business plan.
  • Facilitate the ongoing evaluation of strategy realization by identifying key indicators of success and measurement plans for strategic initiatives and assisting project leads and project managers with the effective measurement of progress against goals.
  • Together with other strategy team members, conduct regular research on industry trends, competitive landscape, disruptors, etc.. in order to provide thought leadership and strategic understanding of the automotive and tire industry to key business stakeholders.
  • Act as trusted advisor to the supply chain stakeholders cross-functionally to provide an informed, analytical perspective on business challenges and opportunities, and develop multi-year plans that contribute to overall corporate strategy; serve as a thought leader in business planning and actionable strategy development as well as an example of open and transparent partnership across functional groups.
  • Regularly interact with field teams to understand current challenges and opportunities that exist at a local, regional, or North American level. The ability to interact with all levels of the business and a willingness to learn from these different perspectives is key.
  • Delivers strategic analysis and overall strategy consulting projects to define strategic options and facilitate strategic decision making. And as needed, own and drive strategic projects from problem statement to concept to early-stage commercialization by working closely with relevant areas of the business; effectively transition projects to identified business owners in order to scale when appropriate.
  • Participate in corporate development activities, as needed
  • Assemble, direct, lead, and influence teams of executive, SVP, and VP-level business leaders, strategists, and industry analysts to work on supply chain operating strategy development as well as the strategy execution plan to ensure appropriate strategic direction and implementation.
Education:
  • MBA from a top university is strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university is required
Experience:
  • Proven abilities to ask the right questions and to use sound business judgment when collaborating with a wide range of partners.
  • Self-starter who leans into and can multitask in fast-paced and often ambiguous environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in building trusting relationships and influencing others
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and work collaboratively.
  • Effective and mature communicator, able to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in written form; comfortable in business and technical discussions.
  • 10+ years of work experience in general management in high growth environments, management consulting, GTM development, and/or strategy. Prior experience in a strategy consulting firm or corporate strategy department is highly desirable with a minimum 5 years of post-MBA experience.
  • Validated results in growth strategy implementation, strategic planning, and sophisticated financial analysis.
