Job Description
Anticipated Position Start Date: Flexible

Role Type: Full-Time, Salaried

Location: Remote (up to 10% of travel)

Salary: $65,000-$80,000 per year, plus

Who We Are:

The Modern Classrooms Project is a fast-growing nonprofit organization that empowers educators to build classrooms that respond to every student’s needs. Founded by two award-winning teachers, we lead a movement of educators in implementing a that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth.

To date, our free online course and Virtual Mentorship Program have empowered 60,000+ educators in 150+ countries. We’ve partnered with 200+ schools and districts to train and support both teachers and administrators, and researchers from Johns Hopkins University found “overwhelming positive support” for our approach. We are an ambitious, idealistic team, and we are passionate about what we do.

Why We Need You:

The Modern Classrooms Project has been able to scale rapidly because we generate revenue from diverse sources. One key revenue source that continues to grow is regional philanthropy. To help catalyze change in communities, we work with regional philanthropists to launch Modern Classroom regions where educators are given scholarships to learn our approach and transform their classrooms. Regional philanthropists direct their dollars to specific cities, counties, and states to ignite our model in their community from the ground up.

As we grow, we are actively looking to expand to new regions and deepen our impact in existing regions. That’s where you come in. We need you to work closely with our CEO to help manage and scale our regional philanthropy so we can reach more teachers and impact more students.

What You’ll Do:

You will report directly to Kareem Farah, MCP’s co-founder and CEO. Working closely with Kareem, you will:

  • Steward existing donors. To ensure that our existing funders are consistently updated on our work, you will design a communication plan for each regional funder and support the CEO in executing that communication plan. All this will need to be reflected in an up-to-date development pipeline in Salesforce and will be in service of achieving a high renewal rate on funding relationships.
  • Engage in consistent prospect research: Throughout the country, there are regional philanthropists who are eager to fund K-12 innovation in their city, county, or state. To help us reach new regions, you will engage in consistent prospecting research to ensure a continuously robust opportunity pipeline big enough to hit growing annual regional revenue goals.
  • Tell the regional impact story. In each of our regions, we are seeing our model impact hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of educators and school communities. We need to tell the story of our impact to the regional philanthropists who have funded our work. A key part of your job will be to become intimately familiar with each of the regions we support and build the collateral that effectively communicates what we have accomplished and how we intend to expand our reach.

We seek someone with:

  • Structured and organized thinking, in order to develop and refine scalable systems.
  • Skilled in supporting, developing, and maintaining communication and relationships with donors.
  • Ability to work remotely and independently and adapt to new situations and changes efficiently.
  • Respect for and understanding of the unique experiences of K-12 teachers, particularly during COVID-19.
  • Strong project management skills, with a knack for working backward from a deadline to create a plan.
  • A deep understanding of the Modern Classroom instructional model.
  • A drive to improve society through strengthening the education experience for K-12, college and university, and adult education learners.
  • Ability to communicate solutions in a timely and effective manner.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and passion for working on complex challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • The ability to safeguard sensitive information about donors, team members, treatment grant recipients, methodologies, etc.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, with comfort presenting to diverse groups of stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits:

We offer a competitive compensation package, as well as the opportunity to work in a fast-growing nonprofit that is on a mission to improve education worldwide. This includes:

  • Generous Paid Time Off policies
  • Salaried Position: $65,000-80,000 per year
  • Employer-sponsored health insurance through CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield
  • Participation in Vanguard 403(b) deferred-compensation plan
  • Ability to work remotely and to set own hours (within reason)

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, disability, age, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or ethnicity. We are strongly committed to hiring a diverse team and encourage applications from traditionally under-represented backgrounds.

COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION: We are committed to the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion so that every day, in every classroom, every student is seen, challenged, and supported. We recognize the impact of educational inequities, especially on historically underserved communities, and will be intentional in developing practical solutions that remove barriers to student achievement. We understand that to effectively promote change, we must be stewards of it in the workplace. We will ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of our decision-making, recruiting practices, organization policies, advancement opportunities, and treatment of each other. Through leading by example and continuous learning from teachers, community partners, and each other, we will establish MCP as a leader in developing equity and inclusion in the classroom and beyond.
