The Alliance has an outstanding opportunity for nine Development Coaches. The purpose of this position is to further develop and utilize the Alliance Learner Centered Coaching Model to strengthen and support the integration of coaching into the daily practice of DCYF Area Administrators (AA), Supervisors and field staff. Coaching activities have been identified as a strategy to help implement the State’s Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) to improve practice outcomes. Additionally, to support Tribal partners as they incorporate coaching into child welfare practice and to maximize a Coaches time to fulfill the coaching hours as approved on the Annual Performance Service Report (APSR). The Development Coaches will also support the integration of the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) through providing Motivational training and Motivational Interviewing Coding Assessment to field staff in partnership with DCYF’s Family First Prevention Service Act regional consultants.
The Development Coach is responsible for integrating coaching activities, including Motivational Interviewing (MI) strategies to support the transfer of learning from classroom-based instruction as well as the on-going professional development of DCYF AA’s, Supervisors, staff as well as Tribal social workers with the aim of improving outcomes for children and family in Washington State. The Development Coach works in a statewide implementation structure but also supports the regional needs through collaboration with the Regional Administrator, Deputy Regional Administrators and Area Administrator to support the work of front-line Supervisors and staff. Additionally, Development Coaches utilize coaching and individual skill development opportunities to help AA’s and Supervisors build capacity to engage in reflective supervision with their staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities (70%)
  • Demonstrate mastery in the Learner Centered Coaching Model within 3 months of hire.
  • Demonstrate mastery in facilitating simulation debriefings using the Debriefing with Good Judgement Model within 3 months of hire.
  • Demonstrate in Fidelity in Motivational Interviewing (MI) to include the Motivational Interviewing Coding Assessment tool within 6 months of hire.
  • Contribute the refinement of the Coaching Model as implementation and feedback occurs.
  • Assure the Alliance Learner Centered Coaching curriculum is delivered with fidelity and that coaching activities support the ongoing implementation of coaching into DCYF practice with expansion to Tribal partners across the state.
  • Contribute to the development of AA and Supervisor practice level decision making tools: Work in collaboration with DCYF to develop tools and/or mechanisms for supervisors and social service specialists to enhance practice decision making through critical thinking, reflective supervision and team/independent decision making.
  • Assist in the ongoing continuous quality improvement training/coaching activities
  • Provide initial and post training coaching sessions to AA’s and Supervisors.
  • Work in concert with the Coaching Model Administrator and DCYF PIP lead to ensure coaching activities are structured and delivered as outlined in the PIP.
  • Deliver post Regional Core Training (RCT) coaching sessions to support the transfer of learning and enhancement of skill development for new social service specialists as approved by the APSR.
  • Facilitate debriefings using the Debriefing with Good Judgement Model as part of Regional Core Training interview simulation.
  • Provide Coaching Model training/simulations to newly hired supervisors as part of Supervisor Core Training.
  • Provide coaching to Tribal social workers as requested.
    Secondary responsibilities (20%)
  • Identify, individually and as a team member, challenges that may impact coaching/training delivery.
  • Assist with development of training/coaching materials and adapt instructional materials for multi-modality delivery which may include: assisting in video instruction, creating videos to demonstrate delivery of coaching sessions, creating e-learning/webinar modules to assist in a cost effective, accessible, and reduction of on-site training/coaching sessions
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities specific to coaching skill proficiency, including completion of Motivational Interviewing skills and coding training.
  • Provide Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) training/MI observation/MI coding to identified FFPSA offices.
  • Regular review of survey data collected.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required.
  • Provide coverage for other Alliance trainings/activities as needed.
    Additional responsibilities (10%)
  • Ensure learning management system completions are done within identified time frames
  • Ensure monthly tracking reports are done within identified time frames.
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with the Alliance leadership team, DCYF PIP Lead and P4C researchers in data assessment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree in social work, a health or social and behavioral science, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience must include coaching and training adults with a clear understanding and knowledge of child welfare, principles of adult learning and evidence based coaching models in human services.
  • A minimum of three years must include child welfare casework, supervision of child welfare caseworkers, and direct experience with coaching adult learners.
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience in curriculum design and delivery methodology.
  • Knowledge of DCYF practice and policies.
  • Knowledge of Reflective Supervision principles.
  • Experience with the Debriefing with Good Judgement feedback model.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Equivalent experience may substitute for degree requirement
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to write and prepare clear and effective training materials and documentation;
  • Ability to develop, plan and coordinate training and coaching and oversight activities;
  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques and the ability to apply these techniques to adult learners;
  • Ability to maintain and use tracking and monitoring systems;
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal statutes related to Child Welfare Knowledge of current child welfare procedures, current practice issues and accepted practice standards;
  • Knowledge of group processes and ability to effectively facilitate small and large group discussions;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with peers, supervisors, program managers to achieve organizational goals;
  • Ability to make reasonable judgments in a complex and changing organizational environment
