FullTime, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shifts

Position Summary


Performs a full range of secretarial and administrative duties for a specific department or unit. Requires clerical training or experience and some knowledge of the unit's operational procedures. May perform departmental support functions such as processing payroll, enter data into information systems, or other duties similar in nature.

  • May make travel and lodging arrangements for the department, through travel agency and maintains appropriate records.
  • Receives mail and routes appropriately.
  • Maintains department files and records for budget reports, invoices and time sheets.
  • Acts as receptionist, answers telephones, route callers, takes messages and provides routine information to callers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Type correspondence, reports, memoranda and special projects as requested.
  • Maintains and orders office supplies.
  • Serves as inter-departmental communication resource.


Minimum Education None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.


Minimum Experience One (1) to two (2) years clerical/administrative experience.

Parkwest Medical Center has a very fast-paced, high-energy, busy, 39 bed emergency room. We see a wide range of patients on a daily basis, averaging 140 per day. It is a very broad spectrum and a continuum of care. We currently use self-scheduling, but hold staff to the requirement of three 12 hours shifts per week. We also rotate every other weekend and every other Monday.


Position Summary


Functions as a specialized direct patient caregiver in the Emergency Department, performing tasks to assist nurses and providers. Performs hands-on care, specified technical tasks, and coordinates communications on the unit.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Gathers equipment for O2 set up. Checks O2 for connection and proper placement.
  • Performs INT removal per nursing or LIP direction.
  • Perform EKG.
  • Empty canisters, urine bags, bedpans and emesis basins and record intake and output.
  • Assist provider with pelvic exams.
  • Performs suture / staple removal at nurse or LIP direction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Collect urine, stool and sputum specimen as ordered.
  • Orders patient care supplies and keeps patient care supplies stocked in proper amounts in rooms, carts and other areas as appropriate.
  • Set up suction equipment and check for proper function.
  • Enters and updates the ED tracking board promptly to communicate with staff.
  • Assists in triage with vital signs.
  • Help to maintain clean and orderly patient and work environment.
  • Cleans and wraps instruments to transport to sterile processing with ability to correctly identify and replace proper surgical instruments on appropriate trays.
  • Completes all items / activities on “TECH CHECKLIST of DAILY ACTIVITIES” as applicable.
  • Application of splints.
  • Applies immobilizers and ace bandages; fits patient for crutches.
  • Provides general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; preoperative supportive care; and anti-embolism stockings and sequential compression devices.
  • Report observed changes in patient condition to nurse or provider.
  • Ambulate, and assist patients in and out of bed, into wheelchairs and transport when necessary (on oxygen if required).
  • Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressures, oxygen saturation, weights, heights, and intake-output measurements.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe environment, which may include checking equipment daily for proper function and reporting equipment that is out of order, appropriate handling of linen and storing of supplies.
  • Employ all established infection control policies including standard precautions, transmission-based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures, and proper body mechanics in performance of job.
  • Perform phlebotomy. To include correct labeling using two patient identifiers, maintenance of lab-draw supplies, rotating and restocking.
  • Perform tasks such as ROM, assist with ambulatory devices as specified by the patients' plan of care.
  • Prepare wounds for provider as directed. Cleans and dresses wounds appropriately.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Promptly answer patient call lights and respond to patient requests.
  • Assists with transportation ofpatients to other areas of the facility.
  • Document/maintain patient record as appropriate.


Minimum Education None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.


Minimum Experience One (1) years’ experience as an EMT, HUC, LPN, MA, or PCA/CNA OR must meet licensure requirement below.


Licensure Requirement CPR required. If less than one (1) years’ experience, must have current EMT registry or license, LPN, MA, or CNA certification at time of hire/promotion or be a student in an accredited nursing education program. Student must have successfully completed fundamental clinical skills portion of the program (1st semester of clinicals).
