Dental Assistant - Clinic Administration

The College of Dentistry, Clinic Administration is looking for a Dental Assistant to join our team. Assist and work with dentists, dental students and dental hygienists. Interact with patients, assist with the management of patients, train dental students in operation of the clinic, develop radiographs and chairside dental assisting. • Demonstrates professional behavior in interacting with others, recognizes and demonstrates appropriate ethical standards, maintains confidentiality; adheres to recommended standards of dress, personal appearance and hygiene.
• Sorts, prepares and disinfects instruments following the directives of the Faculty General Practice Clinic and the Patient Admissions Clinic.
• Takes alginate impressions, pours and trims study casts, fabricates custom impression and bleaching trays, makes temporary molds.
• Anticipates, recognizes and provides emotional support and reassurance to patients. Communicates verbally and nonverbally with staff, faculty, students and patients in a positive and constructive way.
• Loads cartridge and needle for practitioner's administration of local anesthetic. Picks up, passes and receives appropriate instruments for procedure being done. Correctly utilizes intra-oral suction and air/water.
• Greets, seats, places napkin and headrest, prepares patient for treatment; dismisses patient. Updates pertinent patient information. Takes and records blood pressure readings. Records in the electronic patient record the examination findings verbalized by operator.
• Enters completed charges, appointment requests, and otherwise interacts within the electronic patient health record (axiUm).
• Orders, organizes and stocks supplies according to criteria established for the Faculty General Practice Clinic and the Patient Admissions Clinic.
• Exposes, processes and mounts radiographs of patients.
• Clean, organizes, prepares dental operatory area for patient treatment, using prescribed infection control procedures.
• Organizes patient delivery pre-set trays with appropriate instruments, sets out prescribed materials and armamentarium for scheduled procedures. Manipulates dental materials following prescribed directions.

Dental Assistant II - GC25 (Merit)

Salary: $42,910.40
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm - May require occasional overtime.
An advanced starting salary may be possible based on exceptional qualifications.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Successful completion of a CODA accredited dental assistance program or one year full time equivalency in chairside assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry. Must have a current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners. (QDA) Must possess current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography. (QDA) No additional work experience beyond the requirements for this position.
Desirable Qualifications

• Experience working with electronic health record.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Experience working with a general dentist.
