Description


Job Overview


The Dean of Instruction will coordinate instructional services and related support activities at the assigned campus. The incumbent may perform many of the same duties assigned to assistant principal positions.


Position Description


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Instructional Leadership and School Management


  • Assist with coordination of standardized test preparation
  • Coordinate implementation of district approved curriculum, distribution of current curriculum guides and other instructional materials
  • Support the principal in the setting of instructional goals, expectations, and objectives for the school
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campus specific staff development
School Improvement


  • Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis and that the findings are used to make instructional programs and services more effective within current guidelines, coordinate implementation of programs/courses for special populations of students
  • Facilitate departmental activities directed toward implementation of action plans for instructional improvement
  • Plan and coordinate tutorials, interventions, additional support and resources, and other instructional programs for students in need of assistance
  • Participate in developing the Campus Improvement Plan and assist with the curriculum-related activities such as program development and evaluation
  • Direct school resources and/or one's professional efforts to address the most pressing student needs, including intellectual, aesthetic, physical, social, vocational, emotional, and moral development needs
School/ Community Relations


  • Develop and communicate to students, staff, and parents the school’s guidelines and expectations for student conduct
  • Use appropriate and effective communication techniques with students, staff, parents and other system administrators
  • Enhance feedback skills by conducting conferences with parents, students, and/or teachers concerning vital issues
Supervisory Responsibilities


  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities for the instructional and non-instructional staff of the assigned campus in accordance with the District’s policies and applicable laws

Qualification Requirements

  • Possess a moral and ethical compass
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of 2 years Successful classroom teaching experience required
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Demonstrates a heart and passion for leadership
  • Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification
  • Master's Degree
  • Board Approved T-TESS Certification or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Advanicing Educational Leadersip (AEL) certificate or its equivalent Instructional Leadership Development (ILD or ILT) or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.


Additional Information


  • This position is grant funded through Title 1 funds. This position may be discontinued if funds are no longer available.
  • Travel may be required to attend district and or state meetings and conferences and school-related events.
