ROLE SUMMARY:

Assisting and training individuals in making informed decisions and choices which allow them to exercise self-advocacy and control over their lives; Performing related work as requested.

Under the direct supervision of the Virtual Day Habilitation Administrator, an employee of this class is responsible for assisting and training in the areas of communication, life skills, social behaviors, personal skills, health care, and promoting self reliance to the extent possible. The Moderator needs to be able to assist individuals and their support team with basic technology questions and answers.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • The day of the class, the Moderator will make sure the Zoom ID and password are correct, and log into the Zoom account. The Moderator will start the class. As individuals log into the class, the Moderator will greet and verify attendance, verify their location, and note who is with them to assist. The Moderator will serve as the Emcee of the class, while the Virtual Service Specialist and Guest Talent teaches the activity planned. The Moderator is expected to take attendance, lead discussions, mute/unmute when necessary, maintain the flow during activity changes and complete assigned Staff Actions for individuals in attendance. The Moderator will assist with any technology hiccups and foster a organized running group session.
  • The Moderator is also responsible for mentoring new Moderators joining the MY Choice team. When the Staffing Recruiter and Tracker has an employee interested in becoming a Moderator, the Recruiter will notify a current Moderator to set up a training. When they are contacted, they will reach out to the new Moderator to set up a “shadowing” session. During this session, the new Moderator will be able to watch and learn from the experienced Moderator to gain knowledge of what they will be doing, and the expectations of the position. Following a successful training, the Moderator will ask them to sign a training certificate which the Moderator will forward back to the Staffing Recruiter and Tracker. The Staffing Recruiter and Tracker will log the completed training, and forward the certificate to the Activity Plan Manager to include in the MY Choice program binder.
  • The Moderator also completes the Activity Log daily and forwards it to the MY Choice Program Assistant.
  • When a person enrolls in the Virtual program choice, the Program Coordinator will provide them with the Zoom Meeting ID and current password. The Moderator will change the password monthly and alert the members of the password change. The Meeting ID will remain consistent. The Program Coordinator will forward the Staff Action billable services to the Moderator. The Moderator will record their program information onto the Virtual Day Hab Attendance Log (see Form Procedure). Information including date, time, activity/instructor, individual name, and location of service (which in most cases will be the home address) can be entered at this point.
  • When the Moderator receives an approved Activity Plan from a Program Administrator, the Moderator will include the activity into a time slot on the calendar board. The Moderator will inform the Program Administrator of the activity schedule so that the instructor for the activity can be made available to teach the activity.
  • At the conclusion of the virtual session, the Moderator will complete Medisked, recording the time in and out for billable duration of services provided. If an individual logs out of the virtual before 4 hours for a full day, the Moderator will enter a“No Lunch” comment in the Medisked Attendance sheet is forwarded via email to all Program Administrators/Program Assistants at the end of each day, or beginning of following day. Program Administrators will share the information with the Program Coordinator’s for follow up with families that were absent or had difficulties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • The Moderator must be able to engage individuals in active programming in front of a live parental audience.
  • A Virtual Day Hab Moderator is an employee in good standing that is well versed in the use of Zoom and/or other telehealth internet applications. The Moderator role requires a clear basic understanding of computer technology, including logging in to a Zoom session, trouble shooting, screen share, muting, etc. The Moderator needs to be able to assist individuals and their support team with basic technology questions and answers.
  • The Moderator needs to be able to multi task while remaining focused in a virtual classroom setting, maintaining organization and verbal control over a virtual group activity, where many unpredicted and external distractions are likely to occur. During the main room sessions the Moderators will be responsible for redirecting and muting individuals as needed in order to maintain a quiet atmosphere so that the individuals can hear the instructors without interruption.
  • The Moderator is required to be Medisked trained and authorized by the agency to deliver billable services as needed. The Moderator will be tasked with finalizing and reviewing Medisked billing that is completed by a Virtual Service Specialist.

JOB TYPE: Full-time

SHIFT: Monday through Friday (Day Shift)

HOURLY RATE: $20.45

This position is benefit eligible and has generous time off.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1+ years of experience working with people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Readiness to learn and utilize relevant agency computer applications
  • A High School Diploma or GED

*All hires must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License at the time of hire.
