Who We Are
Academic and Business Performance Analytics (ABPA) collects and submits data to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and many ranking surveys such as U.S. News, Kiplinger’s, Peterson’s and Barron’s. ABPA also provides student, course and faculty data through various reports and online data dashboards for the university administration and other stakeholders.
What We Want
The Data Analyst, under general supervision of senior staff, gathers, compiles, analyzes, interprets, reports data and identifies patterns. Responsible for general administrative services and support for the department. Under general supervision, the data analyst may collect data, respond to surveys, answer ad hoc requests, maintain the department website content, build data dashboards and process data. Responsible for documentation of processes and procedures as well as assisting other analysts with special projects.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience with data collection and analysis.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Basic SQL skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer, technical or other analytical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management, etc.
  • Five years of experience in information technology.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience working with SQL to load and update data to existing databases.
  • Familiarity with relational database design and modern data warehousing techniques.
  • General experience in data management, data dashboard creation, SQL and statistical and analytical skills.
  • Experience building data dashboards with Tableau.
Responsibilities:
  • Skills Development - Participates in training and professional development to stay current on tools, skills and methodologies related to job duties.
  • Other Duties - Performs other duties as assigned and which may include but are not limited to the following: Collaboration with the data warehouse team to migrate data into new Enterprise Data Warehouse, assignment and participation in university committees, attending University community meetings as required.
  • Department Website Maintenance - Updates content in Content Management System.
  • Ad-hoc Reporting - Responds to data requests by querying various databases. Collects, analyzes and interprets data, both quantitative and qualitative analyses, using accepted statistical methods and qualitative research methods. Determines best tool for the request including Tableau, Excel, SQL queries, COGNOS, ARGOS, etc. In some cases, reporting requires acquisition, cleaning and transforming of new data to merge with other data sets. Compiles data into usable reports.
  • Processing Data - Runs scripts to load and transform data needed by department for reporting. Uses SQL tools to manipulate, analyze, clean and transform data. Runs processes during key data acquisition dates.
  • Tableau Dashboard Maintenance and Design - Develops, maintains and designs databases and dashboards under direction of senior staff. May develop and test visualizations. Prepares, maintains, and presents historical and comparative data.
  • Completion of Surveys - Interprets survey requirements, documents process and sources, and completes surveys by deadlines. Queries various databases for data and coordinates with other departments to gather data needed for response.
