Job Description

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an executive order February 16, 2023 that will transform the way New Mexico serves and protects the state’s most vulnerable children and families. The order requires immediate changes in how the department operates and sets out a long-term vision for how the department will strengthen its practices. The executive order creates an Office of Innovation that identifies and brings to New Mexico the best practices from around the country that improve child welfare outcomes. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is seeking an Executive Director to champion the Office of Innovation.

Purpose:

The Innovation Office Executive Director oversees and implements changes in approaches, methods, products, and processes to enhance competitiveness and improve organizational efficiencies. They identify, strategize, develop, and drive transformative initiatives and champion the role of innovation by aligning overall business strategy with innovative thinking.

Duties:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to enhance innovative thinking around the agency
  • Develop, strategize, and plan new interventions that will drive innovation
  • Report on and adapting innovative interventions within the agency, as requested
  • Advise management on yearly, medium-term, long-term, and future innovation goals
  • Expand on the agency’s long-term innovative capabilities
  • Create and oversee a comprehensive long-term innovation strategy for the agency
  • Meet with stakeholders at different levels to identify areas of innovation and growth
  • Identify innovation trends and opportunities
  • Lead a team tasked with enhancing the innovative potential of the agency
  • Present new ideas and approaches to high-level stakeholders

Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate or Master’s degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science, Counseling, Business Management or Administration, Public Administration or related field and ten years professional work in social work, social science, human resources, business management or other field related to the purpose of the position. A minimum of three years of experience must include management experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling sixteen years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements:

  • Must possess/obtain and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
