Job Summary/Basic Function: Exercise a high level of cleaning standard in residential and academic buildings. Perform various tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the job site. Work indoors and outdoors. Courteously interact with students, staff, and faculty to promote excellent customer service relationship.
Essential Responsibilities:

• Sweep, vacuum, and wet mop floors and stairs in assigned areas;
• Clean and disinfect suite, and common men's and women's restrooms - use plunger as needed. Replenish all restroom supplies, remove trash, replace liners;
• Inform supervisors of any problems necessitating outside contractors;
• Wash, clean, and polish mirrors, glass, brass, walls, and doors daily;
• Clean and wet mop basements, laundry, suite, bathroom, and/or kitchen areas in all buildings;
• Wear beeper or radio at all times during shifts, keep supervisors informed of your location; check with department
• Dust and damp wash window sills, moldings, fixtures, handrails, banisters, doors, trims, frames, ledges, edges, and public phones;
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.
• Respond to maintenance requests;
• Move heavy furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment as directed
• Clean and prepare guest rooms, student rooms, and transient rooms as required for move in/out; wash and fold linen;
• Wash corridor, suite, and bathrooms window sills, glass in doors, and /or surfaces (inside & outside) as required;
• Snow removal from sidewalks, entrances, courtyards, and roofs;
• Sweep, vacuum, and wet mop floors and stairs in assigned areas;
• Sweep, clean, and hose sidewalks, alleyways, courtyards, window wells and pits around buildings and basement floors;
• Strip and wax, and buff floors as required. Spot clean and shampoo carpets as required;
• Check garbage and recycling containers/compactors, empty as necessary and replace with a clean bag. Take garbage/recycling outside for sidewalk pickup in conformity with Sanitation Department schedule;
• Report immediately to supervisors any building conditions that may affect the safety, security or property of residents; accurately complete written work requests as required;
• Clean and disinfect suite, and common kitchens, counters, cabinets, stoves, and sinks, refrigerators;
• Monitor need for light tray/bulbs replacements in one's assigned area replace, and or report to appropriate supervisor;
• Monitor supply and equipment inventory; report needs to supervisor;

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability and fitness to do the job, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders up to 25 feet.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects (minimum of 50 pounds) on a regular basis with efficiency;
• Compactor experience;
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with supervisors, staff, faculty and students
• High school diploma or the equivalent
• Ability to perform effective cleaning techniques and operate cleaning equipment including scrubbing and waxing;
• Ability and willingness to update knowledge of cleaning products, materials and cleaning machines; current health and safety practices and standards;
• Abiiltiy to communicate effectively with Faculty, Students, Employees, and team members, using verbal and electornic communication methods
• Work effectively under time constraints.
• Physical mobility (stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, stretching , reaching), and vision and hearing acuity appropriate to the efficient and effective cleaning work station tasks and reception of oral and written instructions and communication;
• 3 years as a full time custodian

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiar with inventory and ordering supplies
• Worked with electronic work order systems
• Familiar with electronic payroll systems and functions
• 5 years as a full time custodian
• 2 years with supervisory skills

Salary Range:

$24.24 - $28.78 per hour
