Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Provide written translations of district curriculum materials, resources, and assessments.

Provide high-level literacy learning experiences to students struggling academically. Provide appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area using a combination of delivery methods such as whole group, small group, one-on-one, and computer-based learning designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.


Education/Certification:

  • Texas teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements
  • Master’s degree in Education

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the Spanish language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and pronunciation.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and pronunciation.
  • Knowledge of specialized vocabulary (terminology) in both English and Spanish, particularly with regard to terminology typically used in K-12 English language arts, math, science, and social science
  • Knowledge of curriculum and assessments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the instructional/learning process
  • Deep understanding of evidence-based practices for teaching reading
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies

Experience:

  • Five years of bilingual classroom teaching experience in the area of literacy with a proven track record of measurable student achievement.
  • Experience with curriculum translation across content areas.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Translate written curricular materials from English to Spanish or Spanish to English, ensuring new text in the target language reproduces the content and style of the original, relays concepts and ideas between languages, and that curriculum strength and educational impact remains intact.
  • Work closely with the curriculum coordinators to ensure that all materials are delivered on time and meet department expectations.
  • Provide literacy intervention in English and/or Spanish for designated groups of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
