Culinary Specialist – New York

Marquee Brands is seeking an ambitious self-starter, with impeccable culinary skills, a rich background in culinary education, content creation, and programming, Food and Beverage experience, exceptional organizational habits and flawless time management skills, to join its culinary team as a Culinary Specialist for the Sur la Table brands.

Here's what you will do here

Content:

  • Ensure accuracy of recipe ingredients and instructions.
  • Create recipe packets and instructional materials for Sur La Tables instore and online classes, Averaging 50 classes monthly.
  • Ability to articulate difficult techniques in a written format.
  • Saving materials to both network and cloud based locations.
  • Proofread and edit existing recipes and curriculum as needed according to style guides and Sur La Table quality standards.
  • Ensure on time execution and delivery of culinary assets to internal and licensee partners.
  • Calculates instore recipe cost using existing tool.

Development & Testing:

  • Contribute culinary subject matter knowledge to inform future class and brand recipe needs.
  • Shop, prep, and conduct tastings with team members.
  • Assist with trend research forecasting and competitor analysis to aid in the development of future classes.
  • Collaborate with Culinary Director to determine recipe & product testing and development needs.

Presentation & Teaching:

  • Conduct instore and online class audits quarterly, or as needed.
  • Strong presentation and teaching skills.

Organizing & Archiving:

  • Continuation of document migration to new network locations.
  • Continuation of archiving and indexing past and current recipes into library folders.
  • Update a master class index on a regular basis.
  • Captures and publishes accurate meeting notes. Assists with content hand offs as needed.

Collaboration:

  • Participate in comp shopping.
  • Assist with and provide feedback on product audits and tastings.
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly with a variety of licensee partners.
  • Collaborate with Culinary Director on recipe usage for merchandising, packaging, and marketing needs.

Ability to Travel:

  • Possibilities include but are not limited to trade shows, industry events and off-site demonstrations.
  • Act as an ambassador for the brand to inspire those who love to cook, entertain, and eat well.

  • Have a passion for teaching people how to cook and educating them on a variety of cuisines and techniques
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, communication and time management skills
  • Depth of knowledge in both culinary arts and baking and pastry.
  • Have varied professional culinary experience and want to put it all to use for a heritage brand.
  • Self-starter who likes to work hard, can prioritize, multi-task and focus under pressure

You're going to need this to carry out this job

  • Restaurant and food media (magazine, television, cookbooks) experience
  • Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Sharepoint) proficiency
  • Bachelor's degree, related work experience considered in lieu of education
  • Recipe writing and testing experience
  • 2+ years creating teaching aids or run of show experience
  • Culinary degree
  • Ability to move about the test kitchen organizing, preparing/testing recipes and merchandise for an extended period (up to 8 hours) of time.
  • 2+ years of test kitchen experience
  • Publishing tools, DAM, and project management tools experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift and/or move merchandise and/or kitchen equipment weighing up to 35lbs

Salary Range $67k-$72k
