Job Title: Secondary Criminal Justice Teacher


Reports To: Director of Career and Technical Education

PURPOSE OF JOB


The primary goal of the Criminal Justice cadet program is to encourage academically talented high school students with exemplary interpersonal leadership skills provide them with knowledge in law enforcement/police science, and prepare them for continuing education and, ultimately, employment in a related field. This pathway is designed to acquaint the student with historical perspectives of law enforcement and a variety of criminal justice career fields, including but not limited to Crime Scene Investigation, Law


Enforcement, Police Science, Patrol Theories, Report Writing, Legal


Studies, and Leadership Competencies.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Facilitate active learning instruction to students through planning and preparation to


lecture , model, and use technology and other materials to supplement presentations


  • Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines


or requirements of state and school


  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
  • Builds relationships to facilitate learning through the lens of culturally responsive and


trauma sensitive pedagogy


  • Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform


parents of progress


  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and
  • Use data to drive instructional practices
  • Utilizes district software for mandated record keeping

  • Collaborate with students, colleagues, and parents to communicate necessary


information regularly regarding student progress and student needs


  • Participate in faculty and professional development, educational conferences, and teacher
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities


training workshops


  • Performs related duties such as participating in Educator Rising, assisting students in


selecting colleges to plan course of study in the education field, and counseling student in


adjustment and academic problems


  • Establish a program advisory committee to ensure a quality-marketing program
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with district schools to provide


students with practicum experiences


  • Participate in cross-collaboration activities across CTE and other academic programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from four-year College or University


Missouri State Certification in Secondary Education


SUCCESS FACTORS


Demonstrate experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching


secondary level students.


Teaching experience in urban school


Knowledge of Missouri Learning Standards


Mastery of curriculum writing and alignment to assessments


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The


employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to


use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must


occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job


include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.


Terms Of Employment


Length of work year: 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 187 work days

KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9.0% contribution effective 1/1/16 is required
