Court Services Officer Trainee


SALARY: The salary range for this position is $44,899.84 to $70,774.06 for Schedule A, and $44,899.84 to $67,235.35 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule B.


Court Services Officer 1


SALARY: The salary range for this position is $48,134.11 to $78,859.72 for Schedule A, and $48,134.11 to $74,916.73 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

The New Jersey Judiciary, Mercer Vicinage, is seeking a detailed oriented self-starter to join the case management team in the Civil Division. The selected candidate will be responsible for the management of cases from docketing through disposition; analyzing, monitoring, and processing cases in accordance with court rules and established practices; working directly with Judges, team leaders to set priorities and ensure effective case flow management; creating and maintaining credible trial calendars; organizing workload to ensure efficiency; reviewing cases to determine discovery and/or case management needs including screening for possible referral to a complementary dispute resolution program; reviewing deadlines and case management orders; responding to inquiries from judges, attorneys and other interested parties regarding procedures and/or the status of cases; troubleshooting team member problems; conducting mediation sessions; and other related duties as required.


REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.


Example of Duties


  • Provide guidance to participants in the use of courtroom technology and remote proceedings.
  • Provide detailed analysis of discovery review and calendar activities to be shared with managers, team leaders and judges; conduct conferences with attorneys and parties.
  • Recommend improvements relating to court processes and management of the motion and trial calendars.
  • Preparing cases for Trial
  • Coordination with Jury Management and other divisions as needed.
  • Assisting Team Leader with case management workflow.
  • Perform other related job duties.
  • Hosting of virtual proceedings
  • Independently follow policies and procedures to ensure cases are processed efficiently and in accordance with division standard operating procedures.


Qualifications


Court Services Officer Trainee:


Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.


Substitution: Current New Jersey Judiciary employees who do not possess the required education may substitute: Additional paraprofessional and/or professional experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case-related information which shall have included the exercise of judgment and discretion, and one or more of the following; reviewing cases to identify case management and discovery needs, coordinating with judges and attorneys to resolve case issues and/or preparing reports of findings and recommendations. This experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to thirty (30) semester hour credits. An Associate's Degree and two (2) years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience as described above.


Court Services Officer 1


Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and one year of paraprofessional experience in case management involving gathering, reviewing and verifying case-related information which shall have included one or more of the following: conducting investigations, monitoring casework flow, interviewing clients or customers for needed information, preparing investigative fact-finding reports and/or writing case notes or other case-related correspondence.


Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional paraprofessional or professional experience on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits. An associate's degree and two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree


Supplemental Information


Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.


Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
