We are looking for a Corporate Social Responsibility Manager who will join our Corporate Affairs team.


As Manager for Corporate Social Responsibility, you will be responsible for driving forward innovative communications and programs designed to enable communities and our partners to flourish through stronger relationships, meaningful programs and deeper engagement inside and outside of the company that will center on our social and environmental work. You will do this work in close partnership with cross-functional teams to support our partners, customers, and the local communities in which we operate.


In this role you will:


Engage in enterprise-wide ESG efforts:


  • Develop ESG narratives to drive impactful communications strategies that reach a wide variety of external stakeholders.
  • Report to the Director of Business Communications and work collaboratively to support public policy, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, issues management and reputation building efforts.
  • Collaborate across the enterprise to support setting ESG goals and implementation and manage the communication of ESG strategy, goals and performance.
  • Work cross-functionally to support our corporate responsibility communications strategy and identify key moments for sustained momentum.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives in conjunction with cross-functional teams, in particular Government Relations, ESG, Supply Chain, Human Resources and our Brands.
  • Conduct Issue research and assist is building communications tool kits for business to help in managing on-going and developing issues
  • Manage ESG reporting and disclosures and advise the team on reporting frameworks.


Further relationships with non-profit and community organizations:


  • Manage relationships and programming with key philanthropic partners located near WHQ along with administration of community support efforts, such as donations and volunteer activities.
  • Engage with a network of strategic and innovative environmental NGO’s in the critical areas of water quality and conservation, climate change and habitat creation for pollinators.
  • Lead engagement and partnership development for The Hawthorne Social Justice Fund.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of corporate responsibility, including knowledge of ENGOs, environmental and regulatory issues, to develop the team’s understanding of these issues to inform decision making.
  • Manage program development and grant making for The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation to advance strategic priorities and sustainability leadership.
  • Provide daily support for the Legacy Project, which is jointly supported by the SMG Foundation, and is committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders, problem solvers and entrepreneurs.
  • Provide strategic insight to identify relationship-building opportunities. Continuously review the current partnership and market landscape in order to recommend and develop initiatives in support of strategic business goals.
  • Support partnerships that advance our purpose to GroMoreGood by connecting 10 Million Kids to the powerful benefits of gardening and outdoor play.


The pre-requisites:


  • Effective analytical skills and high attention to detail, including the ability to develop business cases, supervise the development of analytics and metrics, set goals, and identify gaps and opportunities for new projects and programs
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent communication skills to develop internal and external stakeholder networks
  • 6+ years of experience in building CSR efforts within another company
  • Experience driving solutions and programs in corporate sustainability and operations, and working on sustainability strategies
  • Strong management, leadership, and team building skills
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of time; hybrid work schedule available.
  • Knowledge in broad networks with NGOs, relevant academic institutions, industry best practices, and leading-edge sustainability trends and concepts


The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $105,700.00 - $124,300.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
