FUNCTION:The Youth and Program Coordinator will plan, organize, and facilitate quality youth programs by providing ministry support, oversight to all after school programs and oversight to any summer enrichment program at The Salvation Army in Portsmouth, Ohio
DUTIES:
Ministry Responsibilities
oTeach Sunday School
oPlan and organize vacation bible school
oSunday program participation as assigned (Children’s Five, Prayer, Preaching, Program Planning, etc)
oVisitations and mentoring of youth
oEncourage and attend divisional youth events (i.e. SWAT, Youth Councils, etc)
oBuild and maintain weekly youth group meetings
oLeading/overseeing Army youth programs (i.e. Boys Adventure Corps/Sunbeams, Corps Cadets, Video production etc)
oSupport outreach/evangelistic opportunities
oReport and record statistics in a timely manner to local and DHQ as required
oPlan Teen Discipleship activities and Bible Study
oAssist with transportation for Sundays
oConnect After School and Summer Enrichment program families to corps ministries
oPlan quarterly family night activity as a bridge from ASP to Corps
oBuild a schedule and secure corps members for Jr. church rotation.
oOther responsibilities as needed
School and Summer Enrichment Programs
oProvide oversight to the after school programs ensuring compliance with the program standards.
oSupervise Staff, Schedule staff, approve vacation/leave requests, process time cards for ASP/SE staff
oDevelop relationships with parents, teachers, and guidance counselors to enable us to better serve the children
oEstablish relationships with outside agencies as representative of the Salvation Army for referrals (school system, government housing authority, etc) or program support (4H, scouting, etc)
oMaintain budget and stay within monetary guidelines of the given annual budget
oCollect and record payments
oPlan and implement programming that meets Salvation Army regulations and any licensing Requirements
oCoordinate program transportation from schools to The Salvation Army
oAttend required trainings to maintain program standards and safety standards
oProvide good stewardship to building and equipment.
oCoordinate and report statistics, testing and surveys in a timely manner to DHQ
General Office
oSupport Christmas activities as assigned
oSupport fundraising activities as assigned
oAnswer phone, take messages as needed
oSecurity of the building as needed
oSupport social worker and food pantry worker as needed
oPerform other duties, as assigned by Corps Officer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Degree in the field of human services or education required or at least 2 years experience in field of ministry.
•Effective communication skills
•Must be safety conscious
•Must be 21 years of age
•Must possess the ability to function independently and in a team environment
•Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive the 12 passenger van
•Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly, in English
•Must have the ability to work and relate well with individuals with varying needs
•Must be able to handle difficult situations/confrontations in a professional manner
•Salvationist preferred but if not then must possess an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army
•Must attend The Salvation Army Corps as home church
•Music ability preferred but not a must
