The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is currently seeking a Cook 2 to join the team at the Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI). This is a full-time position with opportunity for advancement, growth, and development.

As a member of the Dietary Department of the Institution, the Cook 2 leads other employees in the preparation of meals. This position assists the supervisor by instructing employees, answering questions and distributing, balancing and checking work. The Cook 2 helps to maintain an orderly operation of the Dietary Department by answering phones, ordering food items, providing ordered items to living units, handling special dietary requests, making substitutions on serving lines and ensuring that all opening/closing procedures concerning food service operations are completed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to two years of full-time work in quantity food production in a commercial, military, hospital or institutional setting;

OR

successful completion of a military, vocational or community college program in commercial cooking and one year of qualifying experience;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time experience as a Cook 1.
