Job Description

The Compensation Analyst supports the design, implementation, communication and maintenance of staff compensation programs and processes. This position provides guidance to business leaders on pay administration guidelines and initiatives. This position also works closely with Human Resource partners to ensure that recommendations and decisions are aligned to the university’s overall compensation philosophy.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes and monitors compensation programs to ensure they are competitive, compliant, cost effective, align with business goals and support the university's compensation strategy
  • Collects data and completes compensation market pricing analysis; completes basic financial impact analysis for changes; models potential impact of new programs or positions; maintains compensation data integrity in Workday system
  • Partners with HR Consultants and business leaders to understand compensation needs; provides consultation to various topics, including interpretation of compensation programs and practices, job evaluations, job descriptions, job profiles, salary placement, and organizational structure
  • Assesses exemption classification and ensures compliance with the Fair Labor & Standards Act (FLSA) and DOL regulations
  • Participates in annual salary surveys; may load data into market compensation analysis tool; analyzes survey data and makes recommendations regarding salary offers and promotional increases
  • Conducts scheduled and ad-hoc salary reviews and recommends changes to ensure pay remains competitive and equitable; assists with the annual university-wide merit compensation review process
  • Writes and reviews job descriptions; reviews compensation and job change requests in Workday to determine the appropriateness of the request

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to accurately research, compile and synthesize information, draw conclusions and recommend solutions
  • Solid understanding of current compensation best practices and pulse on evolving practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization and interact, influence, negotiate and build trust effectively at all levels of management and peers
  • Ability to effectively manage a variety of projects
  • Ability to work across teams and business units to lead discussions, influence and build consensus
  • Highly collaborative team player who proactively drives process improvements
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail


  • Workday experience preferred
  • Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Human Resource or a closely related field
  • CCP certification or PHR/SHRM certification preferred
  • Three or more years of experience in compensation or a closely related field
