Job Description

Essential Duties of the Position:

  • Hold regular studio recitals.
  • Must be able to work with students of all ages and abilities.
  • Assist students with recording sessions for auditions, competitions, etc.
  • Teach non-college beginning, elementary, intermediate, and advanced Suzuki violin students, as well as Suzuki group classes, with an emphasis on basic technique and command of appropriate repertoire.
  • Must be available to teach on Wednesdays - other days are flexible.
  • Must be a collaborative colleague and able to work with a diverse student population.
  • Evaluate students to determine appropriate skill level.
  • Arrange performance opportunities for students, as appropriate.
  • Recruit and maintain studio of non-college violin students.
  • Cooperate with and encourage students to audition for orchestras and chamber music as appropriate.
  • Maintain consistent lesson schedule.
  • Participate in activities such as, but not limited to, departmental student auditions, Friday Night Recital adjudication, concerts, workshops, class performances, and faculty meetings.
  • Collaborate with Suzuki faculty to plan program-wide events.

Other Required Duties:

  • Attend school and departmental events.
  • Evaluate students as appropriate.
  • Communicate with parents to address student problems or issues.
  • Provide mid-year student progress reports and participate in year-end juries.
  • Perform other related duties.
  • Provide counseling related to student’s musical development.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with students’ attendance and performance records.

Qualifications:

  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population required.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, supportive team environment required.
  • Master’s degree or higher, or equivalent professional experience preferred with significant interest and experience in teaching violin.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience required; conducting experience preferred.
  • Active performing/studio career preferred.
  • SAA-registered Suzuki Teacher Training through Book 8 required; through Book 10 preferred.

Pay range for this position: $60.00 - $90.00/ per hour
