TITLE: Community Resource Development Disaster Educator – Northern Area Region
DEPARTMENT: Cooperative Extension Program – Northern Area Region
REPORTS TO: Northern Area Extension Director
LOCATION: Northern KY Area

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Extension Coordinator for Community Resource Development (CRD) is part of the Kentucky State University Cooperative Extension Program. This position will work directly with the East Regional Director. This position will develop and organize community activities for targeted audiences providing researched based disaster preparedness information through innovative and strategic planning to educate people within certain urban and rural areas delegated by the Program Leader. This position will coordinate and oversee successful planning and completion of disaster educational, building, and establishing relationships with the university and community program planning. The Extension Coordinator for CRD will lead discussions and coordinate meetings, working with Extension staff and stakeholders, allocating disaster materials. Organizing events and performing outreach duties to engage with the local community. Preparing reports and organizing disaster programming to aid rural and urban city communities as directed by the State Specialist. Additionally, promote and collaborate disaster planning and programming work with other Extension program areas to participate in Extension disaster workshops, events, and demonstrations. This position is responsible for working with other 1862 institutions serving as a delegate for the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) and assisting with program recruitment as well as help expand the Kentucky Disaster Awareness Program (KDAP) Team.
Essential Job Functions
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with first responders.
  • Assist in providing mental health resources to stakeholders affected by disaster.
  • Creates and distributes correspondence, reports, and other documents for Extension Administration.
  • Coordinate the communication and flow of information between the various stakeholder groups, organizations, virtual and face-to-face methods related to community resource development.
  • Responsible for writing success stories and entering information into Kentucky Extension Reporting System (KERS).
  • Create a consistent communication system to notify the public on weather-related updates.
  • Maintain and update stakeholder distribution lists (as needed).
  • Assist in building student cohorts, establishing relations with student organizations such as Manners and other student groups.
  • Coordinate and/or serve as Extension representative or lead the advisory board meetings etc.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of various assessment projects to measure success and related endeavors.
  • Understanding of University policies, procedures, and objectives in planning and conducting Extension programs.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to establish impactful programming for disaster relief.
  • Develop and organize community activities, workshops, demonstrations, for targeted audiences for disaster preparedness.
  • Work with media and communication team to maintain up-to-date CRD website content.
  • Educate community members on the utilization of technology in relation to disaster.
  • Promote and implement programs as directed by the state specialist.
  • Work to create and deliver resources to registered organization’s newsletters, trainings, and presentations.
  • Coordinate plan logistics for community engagement activities and organizing volunteers, for program development, facilitation, and strategic planning.
OTHER DUTIES: The position will conduct other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or related field. Knowledge or willingness to learn about Land-Grant universities and Cooperative Extension

Physical Requirements
  • Work could involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Requires some standing or walking.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Extensive travel required.
