Job Description
About The Brookline Center

From the time of its founding, the Brookline Center has been known for its field-defining impact.

Mental health is at a crossroads: the current system is inequitable, ineffective, and unaffordable, and the need for care is skyrocketing. Meaningful innovation and compassionate care are intertwined in the Brookline Center’s DNA and fuel our vision of mental health care accessible, equitable, and effective for all.

In response to today’s enormous mental health challenges, the Brookline Center is re-imagining its core work. In 2023, we began an evolution from an outpatient-centered community mental health care provider to an expanded role in mental health care as a center for designing, developing, and sharing ground-breaking, cross-sector programs and services. Our aim is to become a hybrid outpatient provider of community-based mental health care and innovation incubator, functioning similarly to the world-renowned research institutions and hospitals in our neighborhood that strive to narrow the gap between scientific insights and patient impact.

To support and fuel the Brookline Center’s growth and evolution, we are expanding our development and communications teams. If you are interested in shaping the future of mental health and ensuring that care is effective and equitable for all, we would love to meet you.

We are actively interested in ensuring that the Brookline Center for Community Mental Health represents a range of experiences and backgrounds. Qualified candidates with diverse racial, cultural, multilingual, religious, class, and/or gender background and experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Center is at an exciting moment of redefining our role in community mental health, and we are looking for a Communications Director who will help advance our vision, position the Center as an innovator and thought leader, and mobilize individuals and organizations to partner in our growth. The Communications Director will work closely with our development team to manage, optimize, and increase our communications efforts.

  • Oversee the writing and production of (and sometimes, write and produce) blog posts, articles, newsletters, website content, and presentation decks.
  • Collaborate with and support our external communications consultants.
  • Support the communications goals and objectives for major fundraising and programmatic events.
  • Develop and implement content marketing strategies that reflect the Center’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Design and execute strategies to increase online engagement.
  • Create a comprehensive communications strategy to advance the mission and vision of the Brookline Center.
  • Define and monitor success metrics to continually improve engagement and impact.
  • Conceptualize and oversee communications campaigns and initiatives.

Experience And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders and staff across the organization.
  • Passion for The Brookline Center’s mission and mental health.
  • Can organize and manage multiple projects, establish priorities, and effectively meet deadlines while demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
  • Demonstrated success leading projects and people.
  • Five plus years of broad experience in nonprofit or healthcare communications, including prior experience developing and implementing a communications strategy.
  • Ability to turn complex concepts into audience-specific, accessible language.
  • Experience utilizing social media management, email marketing, and content management systems.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who values collaboration, flexibility, and collegiality.

Work Environment

Hybrid work environment with days onsite at our Brookline offices and days remote. Fully remote will be considered for highly qualified candidates living outside of Greater Boston.
