Schneider Electric has an opportunity for a Director, Crisis and Reputation Communications (remote opportunity, based in US).


We are seeking an experienced communicator to develop and implement communications best practice in the areas of reputation, crisis and issues management. Based in the Global Public Relations team with a ‘dotted line’ into Corporate Communications, this role will work with communicators across geographies and business units to ensure the company is prepared for issues which threaten our reputation and handles and mitigates them effectively.


What will you do?
  • Develop and own the company’s reputational and crisis communications programs and tools, both at a corporate level and by providing guidance to business units and local geographies, ensuring they are kept up to date and appropriately disseminated, including:
    • Processes, protocols, flowcharts, manuals etc.
    • Listening, monitoring and reporting mechanisms (with others in the broader global communications structure, and external vendors)
    • External positioning reference material, including statements, responses, talking points for sensitive issues

  • Lead the communications component of the company’s response to crises and issues of reputational impact, working with stakeholders across the organization
  • Advise leadership on how to plan for and respond to issues of reputational impact in real time and in evolving situations
  • Act as point of contact for communications validation of responses to potentially sensitive external stakeholder requests
  • Listening, monitoring and reporting mechanisms (with others in the broader global communications structure, and external vendors)
  • Expand crisis communications competency companywide, including through developing internal education and training programs on crisis communications and media training
This position reports to the Vice President, Global Public Relations, with a dotted line to the Vice President, Corporate Communications. Other key stakeholders are the Chief Governance Officer, VP Global Security, and communicators in the Executive Offices, Business Units and Geographical Zones.

What qualifications will make you successful?

With 8-10+ years of experience, this individual will be a proven communications leader and strategic thinker. Key competencies required for the position include:
  • Current on trends in reputational communications, listening, monitoring and reporting tools and technologies, and social media
  • Experience training and developing others’ communications skills, with or without formal authority, including counseling and preparing spokespersons for media appearances
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative, creativity
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple efforts simultaneously
  • Deep proactive and reactive experience with issues, crisis and reputation management, including developing processes and counseling executives on approach and responses
  • Experience working in heavily matrixed environments, leading by influence, developing relationships, managing change, and achieving results in a collaborative work environment
  • Ability to calmly solve problems and guide responses in high-pressure situations
  • Strength in writing and message development
