Job Description

19days is a problem-obsessed venture studio.

We find real problems, validate products, then rapidly build companies to give them a much greater chance for success. The 19days studio was built around the core belief that industry-changing solutions are borne out of clear, focused, real world problems, and that the best venture studios are those that find the best problems, most efficiently. That’s exactly what we designed 19days to do.

19days is built upon Gitwit - a full-service marketing and product company with the complete team to innovate from 0 to 1. As CEO, you’ll have access to a 50+ person team composed of researchers, strategists, technologists, writers, designers, animators, data scientists, and engineers to rapidly build a successful venture.

We’ve found our next problem to solve, have started building the solution, and are now searching for a founding CEO who is an organizational engineer and team builder.

While you’ll wear a lot of hats as a start-up CEO, the most important role is building a rapidly scalable team and business. We are looking for someone who is not afraid to take the helm of a very quick moving, highly complex, and dynamic product to navigate pricing, sales approach, consumer acquisition, legal and compliance, and end user experience. At the same time you’ll work directly with a product team to shape the details of how the product solves our customer's biggest problems.

In this product-meets-operations role, you’ll work with:

  • Designers and engineers to improve user experiences
  • Insurance partners and advisors to boost financial offerings
  • The customer success team to advance how we onboard and activate funerals homes and drive volume of preneed sales.
  • The board of directors to collaborate on a growth and exit plan
  • The sales and marketing teams to build, refine, and optimize the go-to-market approach and consumer campaigns

As a serial team builder, you know that teams are everything. You’ll hire the absolute best of the best based on what will drive our growth. You’ll provide accountability for your team by setting targets and taking ownership over those metrics. While you’ll be surrounded by B2B SaaS and start-up veterans, it’ll be your show to run and we’ll support your decisions at a board level. You’ll be working regularly with the 19days general partners and the extended team who will be able to help navigate your way to success and allow you to spend the majority of your early time in the venture gaining momentum.

This is your opportunity to completely reshape an industry that reaches everyone.

Prelude is the end-to-end digital solution for better in-house preneed planning (pre-planning funeral services well before death) and sales. Funeral care is a $20 billion a year industry in the United States, driven primarily by “at need” (planning services after a death has occurred) and preneed services and sales through nearly 20,000 funeral homes across the U.S.

There are many economic and emotional benefits to pre-planning a funeral and while 70% of society desires to handle these arrangements, only 20% of people follow through and do so. This leaves a significant chance for us to make a massive societal impact across the nation. Digital revolution has not yet been brought to the funeral industry space so this means we must do digital right in order to break through.

For various reasons, preneed sales have become a major focus for funeral homes, yet the major beneficiaries of these sales and profits are realized by insurance companies and their middlemen. At Prelude, our mission is for our product to eliminate the intermediaries in the funeral insurance supply chain and return the profit of preneed to the funeral home. Our business model is setup to be extraordinarily profitable while at the same time paying funeral homes to use our product which is already sparking massive adoption before the product is even built. Our product will increase the profitability of the independent funeral home by 25-50%.

We are looking for a CEO, because we have demonstrated such an enthusiastic response from our target audience that we’ve actually already signed up multiple customers pre-product. We’ve also already negotiated direct relationships for insurance products, assembled the first members of the founding team (deep experts in the funeral space and direct sales), and validated our message.

As the CEO, you’ll experience what it’s like to be in an industry disrupting role where you’re literally reimagining the preneed process from the ground up. Our business model is setup to displace industry incumbents which creates a chance to build out an entirely new business product and team. The pieces are in place to move fast (1 to 1000), and we are looking for a pilot to maximize this opportunity by negotiating every piece they can and setting it up for success. As the CEO, you will have equity in a high growth, high margin business while experiencing the unique ability to grow with working capital instead of investments.

You will serve as the Chief Executive Officer for Prelude. This means you should:

  • Use a deliberate process of steady trial and error to unearth as many customer acquisition opportunities as possible
  • Build and lead the team you need to grow the company
  • Collaborate with various teams to get things done and guide them by providing direction, support, and focus on a shared goal
  • Identify untapped opportunities by examining marketplace dynamics, competitive landscapes, key financial indicators, and how business works
  • Get to know our customers and users deeply by asking incredible questions that explore potential problem spaces and surface underlying issues and motivations of customers
  • Make sure that what needs to get done gets done so the company continues to move forward and doesn’t lose steam

Qualifications:

  • Past startup or growth experience
  • People-centered leadership: building a team through coaching, goal setting, and communication
  • An experienced builder: teams, products, and tech (experience in SaaS is a plus)
  • Possess product sensibility: know what customers want and are willing to pay for

Our ideal CEO is someone who:

  • Is results-driven and ambitious
  • Excels at vision setting
  • Experiments, learns quickly, and adapts
  • Asks good questions that expose “the why”
  • Exudes an “own it all” instead of a “know it all” mindset
  • Gives and receives frequent feedback
  • Moves fast and boldly with a sense of urgency

Benefits:

  • Flexible work schedule
  • Plenty of vacation time to live your life
  • Private and collaborative workspace at one of the coolest office buildings in Tulsa
  • Excellent health and dental insurance with 99% of the employee premium paid by us
  • Life insurance
  • Competitive salary

We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community. Prelude does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status.
