GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for protocol coordination, including research participant recruitment, enrollment, implementation and follow-up of research procedures. The Clinical Research Nurse promotes good clinical practices in the conduct of clinical investigations by possessing knowledge of federal regulations and guidance documents for the conduct of clinical trials and human subject protection. The Regulatory Clinical Research Nurse provides regulatory support and guidelines based on Federal Guidelines. Assures compliance with Regulatory guidelines and Beaumont policies (FDA, NIH and HIPAA)

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. A. Education / Training:

  • BSN required
  • If applicable, department specific clinical certification and/or experience may be required
  • Current phlebotomy skills highly preferred

B. Work Experience:

  • Prior medical/surgical clinical experience required

C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • MI Registered Nurse license.
  • National research certification (SoCRA or ACRP) within three to five years of hire date required. National IRB Professional certification (CIP) is required for the Regulatory Clinical Research Nurse within three to five years of hire date.
  • BLS Healthcare Provider Certification required

D. Other Qualifications:

  • MS Word, Excel, Epic, Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and organizational skills required
  • Must be able to work autonomously
  • Knowledge of FDA Regulations and Good Clinical Practices

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Participate in subject screening, recruitment, consenting, enrollment, monitoring of treatment, and follow-up procedures.

2. Distribute study article, including drug.

3. Maintain study article accountability.

4. Document all study-related procedures/events and documents, including case report forms or electronic data capture systems.

5. Participate in monitoring audits/visits and handle data queries.

6. Prepare for and participate in audits by sponsors and external regulators.

7. Prepare and/or review complex regulatory documents such as IRB applications, Informed Consent and Authorization documents, complex Amendments, Progress Reports, Adverse Event/Unanticipated Problem Reports, and Protocol Deviations.

8. Communicate effectively with the IRB, research participants, research team, principal investigators, sponsors, primary care providers, and ancillary staff to educate on protocol requirements, and to ensure protocol adherence, participant safety, and Regulatory compliance.

9. Participate in pre-study preparation, including budget development, regulatory document preparation and problem solving.

10. Monitor enrollment goals.

11. Practice BH hospitality standards.

12. Ensure and participate in appropriate collection, processing and shipping of research specimens.

13. Implement quality controls and assurance measures and maintain professional and technical knowledge.

14. Protect research participant confidentiality.

15. Research participant/family interaction, utilize effective communication skills, incorporate specific age, cultural, or development needs.

7. Completes all required compliance standards that may be department specific and/or identified by the organization.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A. Physical Effort:

  • Strength

Position requires ability to frequently push/pull up to 30 lb. objects with assist of others, occasional requires ability to lift objects more than 50 lbs. with others, constantly lift objects up to 20 lbs. And frequently lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Manual Dexterity

Position requires incumbent to constantly perform simple motor skills such as standing, walking and simple manipulative skills such as writing. Position requires incumbent to frequently perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning patients.

  • Coordination

Position requires incumbent to constantly perform gross body coordination such as walking. Frequently perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as assisting patients to eat, collections of specimens for transport to lab and tasks which require arm-hand steadiness such as taking patients temps and pulses.

  • Mobility

Positions requires incumbent to constantly walk and stand; occasionally sit for prolonged periods, frequently bend such as when caring for a patient in bed.

  • Visual Discrimination

Positions requires incumbent to constantly see objects far away as in driving and see close objects such as reading thermometers.

  • Hearing

Positions requires incumbent to constantly be able to hear normal sound with some background noise as in answering phone/intercom. Frequently be able to distinguish sound as in equipment alarms.

B. Work Environment:

  • Employee may be frequently exposed to electro-magnetic radiations as in VDTs. Occasionally exposed to hazardous material other than blood, body tissues, or fluids, dust, toxins, cytotoxions, chemical hazardous materials, bodily injuries, loud and/or unpleasant noises, high humidity, electrical hazards, or poisonous substances. Infrequently exposed to blood, body tissue, or fluids. Seldom exposed to fluctuations in temperature, grease, oil, and radiation.
