Job Overview


The Children’s Hospital of Colorado Database Abstractor will be accountable for chart extraction from Epic and data entry into Clinical Databases. This role will utilize expert computer and clinical skills to ensure the accuracy of the data entered into databases and support the Division’s efforts to provide data to clinicians for clinical inquiry, quality improvement projects or research. The Data Abstractor will also support projects, data collection, and the management of data generated by the quality work.

Department: Level Four-NICU
Hours per week: 36, eligible for benefits
Shift: This position will be 40 hours per pay period, working 3-8 hour days per week. Orientation on site, majority of work can be working on NICU CHNC database from home

Qualifications

  • Certification(s): BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.
  • Experience: Three years of nursing experience relevant to assignment. Prior experience with clinical data or research data preferred.
  • Licensure(s): Registered Nurse Licensure (RN)
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Responsibilities


POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

  • No direct patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Assures accurate data extrapolation and data entry Understands the clinical data that are extracted from patient charts and the data's relationship to the Clinical Databases.
  • Performs daily screening, data abstraction and data entry of new patients admitted and discharged
  • Develops quality assurance to ensure that data entered into the databases are 98-100% accurate.
  • Collaborates with the database manager to ensure data entered meets the requirements of the database.
  • Maintains annual competency requirements for the research department.
  • Participates in the bi-annual Inter-Rater Reliability Review with Site Sponsor and data abstractors
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the Data Team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data collection, entry and outcomes reporting.
  • Maintains, supports and implements information systems of the Clinical Databases: Participates in QI Project meetings as assigned to support quality improvement work and provide data from the Database
  • Participates in clinical improvement projects and any projects, as assigned in which the Division might be involved
  • Participates in Monthly conference calls and meetings.
  • Participates in Listserv to collaborate with other Data Abstractors with issues or questions they have posted.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $64,328.01 to $96,492.02
Hourly Salary Range: $30.93 to $46.39
